Is he the new Marc Colombo? Colombo was a solid pick that just couldn't stay on the field until he left the Bears.

God, let's hope not. He is one of the few seemingly decent draft picks JA has made.

Well, the fact that he has dislocated that kneecap several times already in college, and has done it again in week 2 of his first year as a pro, doesn't bode well.

I'm guessing there's no surgical procedure to keep the patella in place? A pin or something? I imagine not.

Stay?

I don't think he ever got on the field and he was with the Bears for 4 years!

I believe you're right. I think he checked out in the preseason.

I didn't want him because I'd read he wasn't good in pass protection and from the films I saw he had trouble finishing blocks. I didn't know about his knee problems. This is terrible. I just did a search for scouting report and it's like our front office is not on the same page as the coaches.

Lets not deem him a Columbo yet.

Also, Columbo ended up being a decent OL. Just decent, but not a total bust.

Thats the thing too, OL take time to get good. I mean most struggle in the first year.

Who was the other lineman that Hussra wanted? That was better at pass protection? Is he playing?

I didn't notice your objection on draft night between slugs of beer.

Solder is in NE. Neither were on the board at our pick.

How is Sherrod for GB?

Sherrod is not starting, and from the report of UMN in the preseason not looking so hot

Yeah Sherodd was who Hussra was talking about

Note "pass protection".

Actual scouting reports on Carimi in pass protection:

Quote:
Carimi is a powerful and dominant run blocker, and exemplifies what Wisconsin football is all about. A dedicated worker, Carimi also has tremendous size and strength that allow him to consistently overpower his opposition. His blocks are nearly impossible to shed when he is attacking the the defensive linemen (i.e. run blocking). However, when asked to drop back and pass protect Carimi’s poor footwork and mobility are exposed.

Quote:
At 6’7″ 315 its not surprising that Carimi struggles to move laterally. But is this really cause for concern at the next level? It depends. If you’re drafting Carimi with the intentions of making him your LT, then yes it’s definitely concerning. Carimi just shows no sign that he is going to be able to pass protect elite edge rushers at the next level. Carimi struggled in college going against guys like Adrian Clayborn and if he can’t do it in college, why would he be able to do it in the NFL?

Quote:
Carimi:
* Needs to use his hands quicker to strike in pass protection
* Tendency to allow pass rushers into his chest, Lost leverage and strength
* Used to pull in the run game, Good feet with good movement
* Clearly needs to learn how to use his hands and arms in pass protection, but that can be coached
* Driven back in pass protection too many times versus ASU

Quote:
Carimi:
* Balance and body control issues in pass protection versus MICHIGAN STATE
* Not a top athlete for LT position, May transition to NFL as a RT
* Clearly more of a physical OT than a finesse movement OT
* Utilized as a puller in the run game, Not athletic but effective
* A very good run blocker, Physical and relentless

Quote:

Carimi:
* Head-to-head matchup with DE Clayborn versus IOWA
* Looked more fluid when he pulled in the run game
* Good initial leverage with the ability to strike quickly in the run game
* Balance and body control issues after initial contact as a run blocker
* A little bit of a wide base in pass protection, Can be coached
* Needs a lot of work as a pass protector
* Not a top athlete and at times struggled with balance and body control
* At this point an initial strike pass protector, Not a smooth athlete
* A physical pass protector more than an athletic pass protector
* A more effective run blocker than pass protector versus IOWA
* Struggled at times with edge rush of Iowa’s Clayborn

I admit you are one of the people from the board whom I am glad to have made an acquaintance.

Sherrod hasn't looked good but I liked him. Supposedly Carpenter has looked very bad and was a huge stretch as a #1. The guy I really liked was Watkins and he has been a huge disappointment as you cannot really give a 26 year old a long time to develop.

didn't know he has a history with that knee, is it that hard to draft an o lineman with no prior health concerns?

Maybe I don't really know if he was finishing his blocks but as one of those reports said he can hold people for 2-5 seconds. That's not very long. Why don't you try to correct me instead of talking to me like I'm an asshole? I go on these sites to learn. I like a lot of your posts but you can go fuck yourself right now.

I don't think he is holding his guy long enough therefore don't think/assume he is not finishing his blocks. Maybe I'm not correctly stating what he is doing, I don't know, he is capable of explaining with out talking to me like an asshole.

Mark Potash had a story comparing Colombo and Carimi yesterday;

Both were taken in the same position in the draft, both were making their 5th start, both QB's got killed after they left (Cris Chandlier was sacked 7 times), both names end in a vowel, both had knee injuries, both happened on artificial turf, Olin Kruetz was NOT playing for the Bears in either game (he was out with appendix surgery when Colombo got hurt), but perhaps the scariest similarity....

Both Lovie Smith and Mike Martz were there when both guys got hurt. This past weekend obviously, but the Bears were playing @Rams when Colombo got hurt. Martz was the head coach, and Lovie was the DCoordinator.

Thats all pretty weird when you think about it.

So its all Mike Martz's fault. Got it.

You're saying 5 seconds isn't a long time to hold a block?
