When the Bears & Lions clash at Ford Field in Detroit one week from tonight, "U" won't find the game locally on ABC7 due to a LIVE episode of "Dancing with the Stars". See what I did there? Instead, the station that carries nightly reruns of "The King of Queens", "Seinfeld", "Tyler Perry's House of Payne", "Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns" and the new dating show "Excused" will do the heavy lifting in carrying the local feed of the ESPN-produced game.

That's right, Bear fans. SHARK has learned that WCIU 26, the Weigel-owned Independent known as The U which carries all of the above shows as well as WGN-produced White Sox, Cubs & Bulls' games, will be carrying the Bears/Lions' game next Monday. Coverage includes live local pregame starting at 7p and live local postgame after the game wraps.

This is the first of 2 "MNF" games featuring our Bears on ESPN. A second "DWTS" conflict on ABC will likely force the Bears/Eagles' game in Philadelphia Monday, November 7th to relocate to The U as well. Please make note.

Since Monday Night Football is on ESPN (and has been for several years) why would the programming on ABC enter into this?

It's in the NFL's TV deal that when a national game is on cable, a free station in the local markets of the teams playing are allowed to simulcast the ESPN feed. Traditionally, it's on the ABC affiliate for games on ESPN, because they're all under the same corporate umbrella. The last few years, since the emergence of that stupid ass dance contest featuring a bunch of F list "celebrities", the U and WGN have both had games (it's possible that the GN game was an NFL network game...I don't remember).

Nope

I do like Kevin Pollack, though...I'm glad you enjoyed his standup last week.

Guys, WGN's CW9, which is a Tribune-owned outlet, signed an exclusive deal last year with NFL Network to broadcast "Thursday Night Football" on its locally-owned stations, and that's where you found the local feed of the Bears' 16-0 shutout of the Dolphins in Miami on a Thursday night last November.

In previous years, FOX-owned My50 was the local outlet that carried any Bears' games on NFLN's "Thursday Night Football", complete with live & local pre & postgame coverage. Corey McPherrin, who now co-anchors FOX32's "Good Day Chicago" with Anna Davlantes, previously hosted My50's Bears' pre & postgame with Tom Waddle if memory serves.

That "stupid ass dance contest" you are referring will force ABC7 to ship out the Bears/Eagles' game November 7th. While ESPN will have that game, don't be shocked if WCIU 26 The U carries the local feed of the Bears' second "Monday Night Football" game instead of ABC7 next month.

"U" can thank another "Dancing with the Stars" conflict for this...See what I did there?

WCIU 26 The U will once again have a Bears' game on its air Monday night, thanks in large part to ABC airing another live episode of "DWTS". The Weigel-owned Independent has the ESPN feed of the Bears/Eagles' game from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia this Monday night.

Just like they did in Detroit last month, The U'z coverage begins with the WGN Sports-produced local pregame at 7p with host Dan Roan broadcasting live from "The Linc" followed immediately by Moe, I mean Mike Tirico, Larry, I mean Ron Jaworski & Jon Gruden's call of the game complete with Suzy Kolber on the sidelines and Stuart "Booyah Boy" Scott's obnoxious walking towards the TV in promoting "ESPN SportsCenter" afterwards. The U'z coverage concludes as Roan hosts the WGN-produced postgame on 'CIU after the game Monday night.
