Tice is the teflon coach. O-Line finishes 31st last yr and it was Martz's fault. This year they stink and it's Angelo. I'm not saying that those aren't reasonable assertions, but I don't want to hear Mully, or Pompei, or the Ginger haired genius tell me Tice is a great coach when there is nothing to support that belief.

How much say does Tice have with personnel? If it's a lot, then douche away. Otherwise, every week he's handed a big bag of crap and expected to create gold. That ain't gonna happen.

Much like Best was racking up long runs while going untouched, the Lion's DEs were getting into the Bears' backfield virtually untouched, with little more than a speed move. Short of keeping Clutts and Forte in to block, what else should Tice do?

Good coaches make young players better. If Mike Tice really is a great line coach then the young line would be improving regardless of the talent level. That's clearly not happening.

I kept thinking use a hand signal, silent count or something because their preparation for a loud stadium did not work. Jay Cutler is lucky to be alive this morning. That was the worst display of pass blocking this side of last year's Giants game. What amazes me is that they can actually run the ball....

Webb & Omiyale are not NFL starters, and are barely NFL caliber players. Chris Williams is awful. Lance Louis is ok but ouchy, and Garza is ok but old and in a new position.

I know you have the green and gold glasses on, but they are clearly obstructing you view of everything that is not Packer related. Not to mention that the guys they did bring in are almost all out of position-- Williams drafted as a left tackle, sucks so he's a guard, Spencer is a center who won't play center on this team unless Garza gets hurt, Omiyale is a guard (sort of) but is playing tackle, etc etc. This Oline is putrid and unless Tice has a say in who is brought in, this is Angelo and the ownership, not him. You can't polish a turd, FF.

The way he shuffled around things last year and how much they improved in season.

Also his Vikings teams were pretty awesome on the line.

That reads like all the tired Cutler excuses. No, you can't turn a bum into Jonathon Ogden, but you can turn a bum into a less shitty bum. I never said Tice needed to be a miracle worker. I said that young players, regardless of talent level, will show improvement under a great positional coach. You are disputing that?

I never said Cutler, but I knew you would bring him up at some point.

If a player is shitty than he is shitty regardless of age or coaching. Gordon Beckham hit .230 this year, and maybe he's just a bad hitter. Webb has seemed to regress from last year, and I don't believe that is on Tice. He just sucks. Omiyale is not a young player and has no business being with any NFL team unless he is on their practice squad.

I will. I saw Lions' DEs lining up pretty wide and getting to Cutler virtually untouched. That's not coaching, that's o-linemen not being able to match up physically with their opponents. All the coaching in the world isn't going to make our tackles faster or more physically gifted.

Ok well if bad players will be bad regardless, then of what use is a coach?

 Now you're just being silly, and stupid.

The best coach in the world probably couldn't do anything with this Oline. Get some guys in here that will at the very least get in the way of a defensive lineman, and Tice will work with them. His reputation speaks for itself. After what he did in Minnesota and what he did last year, I cannot believe he has all of a sudden become a bad coach as you suggest.

What did Tice do last year? Cutler got killed the first half of the year and they changed the whole offense to stop him from getting killed in the second half. They were nearly the worst line in football. Tice is getting by on past reputation not current performance.

So if you were on the Bears o-line, you think Tice should make you be serviceable? Even though you are slower and smaller than those you're going up against? Seriously?

What did he do last year? The line improved but still ranked as one of the worst in the league. It's at that level again this year. It's funny that you think I'm being silly and stupid yet you lead off your argument with a statement that is 100% meatballish and untrue. The best coach in the world could easily work with a line like this. Thats what coaches do. He may have been given a shitty hand but he hasn't done anything to improve it. If you think that a great positional coach can't work with below average players and improve them even a little, you are just wrong. You think the Bears have 0 NFL-caliber WR's and 0 NFL-caliber offensive linemen but that is simply wrong also. They are below average certainly, but the wide receivers and offensive line play of the some of the worst teams in the league is just as bad or worse. If there were better players out there just chillin im positive they would be scooped up by someone.

Meatball. These aren't 5 foot nothing Doug League players.

Yes...complely dismiss the fact that the Bears may have 1-2 legitimate NFL caliber linemen. Totally dismiss the fact that they were totally, physically out-matched last night. Please show me the scheme were linemen become faster and stronger. If you have that, then you missed your calling.

I think if I was 6'5" 300+ lbs and played football my entire life and was good enough to make an NFL roster, that a great line coach could improve whatever my current level of production is at. And your argument that at least five of the linemen are not NFL caliber is false. Watch some of the other putrid lines in the league. Just because a player is bad by NFL standards does not mean he is not NFL caliber. If there were better players out there the vast majority would be found.

So Tice should improve the fact that BETTER players are running right by his Olinemen, and that they had 9 false starts yesterday.

You are saying that Tice needs to improve that, then call Killer V and I meatballs?

Prime stuff to be heard Thursday at 5:00pm.

I'm missing the funny irony part. Yes I think Tice should be held accountable for not improving a bad line. That's his job. Not sure how that is meatballish. Saying bad players suck so much they are beyond repair and comparing them to you and I is way sillier. What I said isn't even a slightly controversial opinion, I believe it is one that is widely held.

The Bears improved as the season went on last year and Tice made a decent line out of crap.

Perhaps you disagree, but thats the stuff people are talking about.

Unfortunately, the waters are muddied by the offensive scheme. Cutler drops back into the same fucking place, every fucking drop-back. They never roll him out & they never move the pocket. That makes blocking even harder.

And I really, really want to meet that coach who can make me faster.

Yet when he was running around last night, he was making a lot of good throws. I thought he played great considering how bad the Oline was and how bad the WRs are.

So talentless players will play well with good coaching? I'm not sure I buy that logic.

The OL may be bad, but the Bears have now had back to back great days of rushing the football.

Stop being a meatball. So Chris Williams has zero talent even though he was widely regarded around the league as a 1st round prospect just a couple years ago? Bad players should improve with good coaching. Not every single one of them but as a unit yes. I'm not saying talentless players should play well. I'm saying below average players should improve if their coach is one of the best in the business, as Tice is often described regarding line play.
