This is a bad thread, even for you James Q. Meatball.

I agree, bad thread. I completely believe that the Chicago Bears should ride this thing out with Caleb Hanie. Don't worry about calling McNabb, or Favre, or anyone else.

Really. Caleb is fine.

Really.

For the record, Brett doesn't mind retirement, especially after what the Bears' Corey Wootton did to him last December on that ice cold field at the University of Minnesota a year ago that ended his career. I think in hindsight, the Bears are definitely regretting their decision to go with Caleb Hanie as the primary backup QB once Jay Cutler broke his thumb in the Chargers' game.

Ideally, I think the Bears have to look long & hard into bringing in a veteran QB, such as the Chiefs' Kyle Orton, to hold a clipboard and to better run this offense in the event Cutler gets injured and misses another block of games again.
Come to think of it, I wouldn't mind seeing Orton back in a Bears' uniform next fall...as Cutler's primary backup.

All kidding aside, I am thoroughly confused by the Bear front office. While I might not be a fan, I still follow the team close enough to know that somebody fucked up. Big time.

Hanie has been in this system for how long? Couple years at least, right? And this is what he has to offer?

I just don't understand how the Bears couldn't even entertain the thought of possibly reaching out to a veteran QB not named Josh McKown. One would think that they had some idea how untalented Caleb Hanie was. I refuse to believe that the entire coaching staff/front office would be this inept.

If the coaches really believed that Hanie was "good enough", then they need to be fired. All of them. Because they are clearly schizophrenic.

Too little, too late. They'd probably have won enough games to make the playoffs if they called him right after Cutler got hurt.
