Give him total control. If he wants GM only, fine. No way he takes just a coaching job without control. Get this man hired!

Tough to hire a guy who doesn't want to be hired. Keep it realistic.

Do we know that for sure? No way he wants to stay in the media ad infinitum. I think he is waiting for the right opportunity.

He's been out of coaching for several years and says he doesn't want to come back. Wouldn't that lead to the conclusion that he's unavailable?

Lovie is staying. Not sure there is any evidence Cowher would be a good personnel guy but I'd love you hear your reasoning.

Cowher would be a great coach IMO. Not sure if he's qualified for GM, but as a coach, I'd take him in a minute over Lovie. Let's hope George McCaskey makes the call to Cowher and can objectively detemine Cowher's desires and qualifications.

Most educated guesses an hour ago would have been Angelo was back too.

Hasn't it been stated that the McCaskey's loved Angelo as well?

Not sure, but Lovie is still the coach.

They might be waiting for the new gm to make that call. I'm hoping.

Not sure, but Lovie is still the coach.

Jim Caldwell is still the coach of the Colts.

#Bears will retain coach Lovie Smith, who will continue to evaluate his staff.

People who know George McCaskey better than I tell me that they aren't in the least surprised by this.

From the Bears: http://www.chicagobears.com/news/NewsSt ... ry_id=8538

Bears President and CEO Ted Phillips informed Jerry Angelo Tuesday morning that he will not return as the team’s general manager for the 2012 season.

Angelo was hired in 2001 and led the Bears to four division titles, two NFC Championship Game appearances and a Super Bowl appearance in his 11-year tenure as head of football operations.

Lovie Smith will remain as head coach and will continue to evaluate his coaching staff.

The team will hold a press conference today at 4 p.m. (CT) in the Halas Hall theatre.

Has anyone wanting the kind of authority that Cowher wants ever had success in the NFL?

RFDC, you made mention in another thread of Chris Polian doing things that would not make you want Bill Polian if it meant Chris would be coming along. What did he do? I don't know anything about him.

I believe you have me confused with BRick.

Lovie is on the hot seat now. Every GM wants to hire their own coach. It's playoffs or bust for Lovie

Don't you ever confuse me and RFDC ever again.

RFDC, why do you like Kyle Orton so much? Why must you be the internet debate champion?

The Bears have the perfect situation right now for cleaning house. They fired Angelo & Martz, hell...they might as well fire Lovie & start over with a new leadership team. Now the Bears will hire a new GM & tell him that Lovie is protected? I hope like hell that this doesn't happen, but perhaps they just promote Tim Ruskell to GM?
Why do I have the feeling the Bears will screw this up?

Cowher would take the Bears job in a second.

What makes you think that?

I think he's waiting for the perfect situation.

The Bears do not fit that description.
