They've made the playoffs the last three years. Rose was Rookie of the Year and was MVP last year. They made it to the Eastern Conference Finals and had the best record last year. They were not expected to beat Miami and they didn't. They've met or exceeded expectations this year and last.
The Bears made the conference championship game last year and also played in the Super Bowl. That's better than Rose up to date.
They made it through a weak NFC on the strength of the defense and kick return game. If they had probably any other quarterback other than Grossman they probably win the Super Bowl. A guy who is not too short to see over the line or who doesn't try to chuck the ball up to win the game. That's where the massive letdown comes in.
The conference championship season was almost a complete fluke. Hardly any injuries the whole season and they faced the backup or crappy quarterbacks in just about every game. The Saints get beat by the Seahawks and so you get a 7-9 team in Soldier Field. If you have any kind of decent offensive line Cutler doesn't get hurt in the game against the Packers. Another massive letdown.
The point is they made it to the Super Bowl and then they missed the playoffs in 07, 08 and 09. They missed again in 2011 because the GM didn't believe in filling the holes on the team. He said "There are only a couple no. 1 wide receivers out there," as if that means he can't get better receivers.
I do realize football is king, but you have to admit the Bears have screwed the fans over by an ownership that doesn't know how to get the right football people in place.
