I think that is going to have a huge impact on the defense next year, given so many of these players are system guys. Depending on who is the next hire, there may be critical holes at strong safety, cornerback, weak and middle LB and defensive tackle.

Aren't there other guys who can be hired who can run the same system?

And to likely be apparent in fairly short order, head coach.

I guess most base zone systems would cover the defensive backs. I'm not so sure about the LB and even less sure about the DT.

and a murph-voiced "say it like you mean it" to you too, sir!

who knows? this could be a clown college hire.... but as a bears fan i've come to expect that, sometimes you gotta wash out all of the tradition and fire and pashin with some good ol fashioned bad football. my football existence wouldn't be quite the same without having experienced the gary crowton era.

A bunch of guys at the Score will have their heads explode if the Bears convert to a 3-4 scheme and McClellin does indeed move to linebacker.

What will the Bears do without the great Ron Marinelli? I'm glad to see the truck finally backed up to Halas Hall.

If both Lovie and Marinelli sucked how was the defense any good? Yeah let's get away from things that worked.

This sounds like North with his Phil Jackson hate. I think Dale Sveum is a good manager but without the horses, forget it.

That's a pile of shit, but even if it were true the defense was working. Change for the sake of change isn't a good reason.

I think Jauron had a lucky team and without Mike Brown, they go 11-5 and still make the playoffs.

That 3rd in defense this year is not going to happen again. Poor Trestman has been set up to fail. :(

Did you think Schwartz was a good coach last year when Detroit defense scored 8 tds n won a lot of games?

I can't give credit to lovie or marinelli for turnovers ...turnovers. are why those guys appear better than they actually. Are.

I just heard Rod is going to Dallas to coach the D-Line? That tells me he was fired. No way do you leave a cordinator job and take a step down.

It was a whole shpiel because Roddy McDowel would not allow Rodney in the screen actors guild or some actors club. He wanted his fans to send in insults for Roddy. He liked mine, but I don't remember it.

Are you suggesting one season and nine seasons are comparable sample sizes? I hope not.

That's foolish thinking. You HAVE to give credit to Lovie for the turnovers, if for nothing else. It's not a coincedence that they had like 10% more or whatever the number was of turnovers than any other team in football over his nine years.

I got the distinct impression that every time someone asked the Marinelli genius question to any player on the team that they felt obliged to parrot the notion, despite Marinelli being a severely weird human being that was clearly held at a distance by his players. I saw them just flat out ignore him multiple times, and even snicker.

With a defense this ingrained and players this experienced in it, I just don't know how much credit can go to any coaching. So I'm not really worried about any of these losses. I was for cleaning house. And Trestman appears to have some decent connections at least, to bring in some good coaching talent.

At least Marinelli's weirdness can be attributed to grievous psychological trauma incurred in Vietnam. Lovie's weirdness was just him being haughty and tedious. I can picture Marinelli having flashbacks in the locker room, randomly dropping to the ground and making tunneling motions.

Exposed? Lovie didn't just show up in a basket on Virginia Mc Caskey's doorstep with a note to make him a coach. The guy has proven himself as a coach, coordinator and head coach in this league.
