The Bears drafted two pretty solid guys this draft so far.

Long has barely any tape on him that can be an effective sales tool to convince anyone he's worth the 20th pick (he wasn't) but he's got Intangibles™ that could make for a good career. The best thing for him and the team is to start him at LG/RG on the depth chart right now and see how he fares against Paea and Melton. The worst thing for him and everyone involved is if he turns out to be a steaming pile of shit, then we've run into The Carimi Scenario (not to be confused with The Creamy Scenario, starring Johnny Wadd) only without the injury excuse/beard (horn).

I'm all in favor of the Bears getting offensive linemen on the roster, so I like the player, but taking him at 20 is only reckless if Long is bad. We'll find out soon enough.

I watched a lot of Jon Bostic tape using The Dewskie Method* and the first player I thought of in comparison was Lance Briggs. He's got better wheels than most gave him credit for, is a solid tackler, and seems to have a nose for ball. I think he looked a hell of a lot better than Kiko Alonso, personally, and his 50th overall selection feels very justified.

And for those who loathe Emery, here's some good news for you: Shea "Go Fuck Yourself & Die In A Fire" McClellan and Kyle "Emery Just Blew That Pick" Long will probably both start right out of the gates next season and this is it: if they're bad, Emery's ass is on the hot seat.

I firmly believe the Bears would make a change if these guys don't perform because:

1. Emery was hired specifically to make the Bears draft better. Two years of potentially recklessly bad drafting puts the franchise in a god-awful hole to dig out of.

2. The window for winning is right now. Cutler, Peppers, Tillman, Briggs have an extremely limited time to execute on a Lombardi-trophy level, and if their talents are wasted because Emery's goofy scouting metrics fucked the Bears up from the inside out, why continue the facade?

So anyway, the worst thing that can happen for everyone is if the Bears play 8-8/9-7 football, perpetuating the entire process. A .500 record seemed to buy Angelo a decade. Let's hope for boom or bust, giving us all some clarity.

In closing here's a gif that I think more people could philosophize with, unless you've already got the pitchfork/torches out, in which case - carry on.

I font know enough about long to say the pick is bad or a reach. I wanted eifort @ 20.
This is the year for Shea, if he doesn't show anything on the field he will be a bust officially. I have my doubts he will amount to anything in the NFL, even though he'd be better off in a 3-4 . Emery will have a minimum 2 more drafts before he is on any hotseat. It could be worse, look at Jeff Ireland.

I barely follow football outside of the Illini, but it seems to me that even if Long turns out to be Anthony Munoz it was still a bad pick since you didn't need to use No. 20 to get him.

I submit this poorly-construed assumption as Exhibit A, your honor.

Dewskie and IB has the potential to be the next under the radar great feud around here ala Dr Ken and Tall Midget.

I got my eye on it.

I like Dewskie. I think he's wrong a lot but I'm wrong a lot. He's the yin to my yang.

No way is Emery going to be under pressure in the next few years. He's the perfect Bears employee.

Emery is a great day 3 GM.

Can we hire one that can be good on days 1 and 2?

After the first round selection I have liked every thing Emery has done this draft.

I don't mind what has happened today, but his scouting history suggests that he is REALLY terrible in rounds 4-7.
