Bob Legere and Adam Jahns.

Moon Mullin covers them for CSN.

I was out of town past couple of weeks. Did we ever get the whole story as to why Pompei is gone?

Think they weren't giving him the freedom to freelance.

What's Pompei's angle I wonder? Maybe his pension/retirement plus freelance was more than just his Tribune salary.

Sounds like Sean Jensen is still in the market for a regular gig, Trib could pick him up, Cowley covers the Bulls and before that the White Sox from Minneapolis:

Quote:
Jensen, Chicago Bears/NFL beat writer for the Chicago Sun-Times, has left the newspaper amid staff reductions and returned to the Twin Cities, where he was a beat writer for the St. Paul Pioneer Press from 1999 to 2009, covering the Minnesota Vikings. "I've committed to teach a journalism course at the University of Minnesota this fall, and I'll be a regular contributor to K-TWIN (96.3)," Jensen told his Facebook friends. "In addition, on a temporary basis, I'll be covering the Vikings for my old paper, the St. Paul Pioneer Press." Jensen, 37, told Journal-isms he was open to new job opportunities. As a high school student in Alexandria, Va., Jensen, a Korean American, was the first non-African American to receive a scholarship from the Washington Association of Black Journalists.

Jensen was a very good reporter IMO. Crazy somebody like that would be "let go."

Who needs those guys? There is so much information going on today it's mind numbing. Blogs, websites, etc. Especially when it comes to the NFL.

Kind of strange that the papers are in flux regarding Bears(!) coverage so close to the season, but save for a few major papers I guess these kind of budget cuts were expected. Maybe KC Johnson could do some double duty since he rarely has anything substantive on the Bulls anyway.

AFAIK, he wasn't asked to leave, Sean Jensen left on his own right around the time Wrapports/Sun-Times cut all their photographers (laid off like all 30 of em in 1 day), cut back on Neil Steinberg's columns (Steinberg has a blog he writes for on his own now), told Terry Savage she had to either recruit her own sponsor to pay for her column space or gtfo, etc etc.

Sun-Times music writer, Thomas Conner, did what Sean Jensen did, left on his own in early June and is going to grad school. Jensen left on his own right after the NFL draft, iirc.

It's probably a good thing (at least in terms of PR, Ebert was a major click-draw for them) for Wrapports/Sun-Times that Roger Ebert passed away the month before Wrapports basically flushed the Sun-Times down the toilet. He would've raised quite a stink ,esp w/r/t the photographer layoffs.

The Tribune should have hired Jensen the second he left the Sun-Times.

Maybe he had a non-compete in his contract with the S-T? Maybe he has to sit out a year in terms of covering Chicago sports/the Bears, since he walked out on his own and wasn't fired.

Biggs is light-years beyond anyone else. He's the best beat guy in the city of any sport.

without shefters, and the nfl network insiders.... the blogs have no content to discuss... being a fantasy football enthusiast, most of the blogs would just reference the beat writers twitter comments to generate their stories... so they are still relevant IMO
