Not giving up, but the defense might still get injured further and then it will be like playing nobody out there when Tillman and Peppers go down with real injuries. Love to still watch the Bears in the playoffs, give me a wildcard slot and maybe get a first round W. Who knows. Just not expecting it.

With that said, 2014

Jay- You need to give him a deal. Somehow make it friendly on the backend, so in your 4 or 5, he is tradeable. The guy has an arm and there will always be someone willing to take the chance on him. the options are much much worse for next year, so need to get that done.

Offense seems kind of set. Nothing wrong with picking up a scat back and another TE, maybe a center drafted late, but they have 2 WR's not getting time right now who can play, so while work needs to be done here, They have components.

Defense is an issue.

Peppers and Melton money will be available, probably Dj Williams money too as Bostic needs to get into this defense.

Maybe they get Melton at a cheaper $? Good start.

This #99 issue needs to work itself out this year, if they cant find a place for him to produce, need to cut him.

steven pea, See ya, way too many times seen on his backside. Nice dance though.

Wooten. Need to pay that guy.

1st round pick, needs to be D lineman!

Then CB, then D Line then CB.

also, does the 3-4 defense start making sense? As the league goes to this passing attack, maybe it is better to have blitzers v D line guys on the field. All coming back to #99!

See you in 2014

Go Bears.

Cutler will never be tradeable in year 4 or 5 unless he is putting up amazing numbers.

I don't trust Emery to hit on the number of draft picks that this roster needs to replace the picks blown by the previous "G.M." And the picks needed to replace the aging players.

Depth is a huge issue with this franchise. When you employ 1st timers at numerous management positions, this is what the result is. Remember, Emery is a recycled Bears employee.

I see the Bears maybe treading water for the foreseeable future.

The future is Grimm. Too many holes, not enough picks. Gonna be a long decade to come.

Its October 9th. Even if they lose against the Giants, a 4-3 record does not knock them out of anything at this point, especially with the Lions and Packers having 2 losses already. How about what see what happens over the next 6-8 games before we say, "there's always next year." Keep that shit in Wrigleyville.

yeah obviously jay's going to get his deal, and it's going to be a nice one when the season's done. the defense has gotta know that this year is their swansong cuz the aforementioned deals are going to come off of the books and out of those names mentioned i could see only peanut being a bears lifer. i'd love to see them get a bonafide #1 CB via the draft, as they really need 2 going forward.... and that's before you go with a high pick for the d-line cuz even with a good line you're going to need pass defense. and safeties too, but hey if peanut sticks around without a giant contract maybe he could even transition to that, assuming that the bears get a couple'a young cornerbacks to groom into the peanut/jennings CB roles.

Hub's the only guy i'm hearing consistently point out that the bears don't have enough WR to fully implement the offense at the moment. you've got marshall, alshon, and earl.... marquess wilson seems to be a project at the moment, so you'd love to have at least some vintage mid-late 00s rashied davis type around now so you could run 4/5 WR sets. I think one of those potential WR roster spots is taken by devin, who's not going to be around next year at this rate.

so yeah, next year there's going to be a big change with this team on defense as they've gotta re-do the DBs and the d-line. and they could really use some WR depth too. if marquess wilson can be a solid WR4, good, now go get a WR5. it's pretty obvious to me that this team will only go as far as the offense takes it for the foreseeable future.

No way dude. He's not even close to a top 5 qb and paying him like one would be ridiculous.

Yeah, you're being realistic. October 10th and you're already talking 2014. Very realistic, bigfan!!

If they drop 3of their next 5 games and you say that on November 10th, I'd be inclined to agree with you. Until that happens however, keep that shit 'next year' shit in Wrigleyville, as I stated earlier.

I will assume defense gets worse and one or two more serious injuries take their toll.

Right now, 3rd worse per play differential in the league is the Bears and I see it getting worse. When Tillman and Peppers actually start missing games due to injuries.

But that probably wont happen.

But I will TRY TO KEEP THAT SHIT IN WRIGLEYVILLE

This thread will go one of 2 ways. You will keep bumping it to say I told you so, or it will turn into another Adrian Peterson thread.

If that happens then the Emery Brain Trust is stupid as fuck. This would be the equivalent of extending Soriano's deal in 2012 for another 3 years. You can't franchise a guy when he's not even sniffing the top 50% of the field.

While we're at it can we please for the love of all that is holy get over this "Jay Cutler is the greatest Bear QB ever because he's so athletic and has all the skills" Bernstine-esque mindset? Because the deal is yeah, he's the best BEARS qb in 40 years but hes still like 15th on the overall league depth chart ain't he?

And franchising him pays him like a top 5? no way jose.

I hear ya, but franchising him seems like a win for the Bears. It avoids a long-term commitment, keeps him under control for a year, and allows them more time to figure out what happens post-Cutler even while keeping Cutler for the time being. If the franchise tag meant a long term commitment at big money, I'd be on your side here, but one year isn't a big deal.

The price tag, I believe is 25 mil.
You're willing to pay THAT to Cutler?
Shit. Spend that money on some defense.

I don't know if it's 25/year based on this site: http://www.overthecap.com/top-player-sa ... osition=QB

Not sure about the accuracy of the numbers on the site, but even if the info is legit, the average is still steep. Sure I'd like to replenish the D, but doing so at the expense of locking Cutler in merely trades one problem for another. With Cutler gone, who is going to throw the ball to Marshall, Bennett, Jeffery, etc.? Even while acknowledging Cutler is only an above-average QB at best, I wouldn't let him go unless a demonstrably better option was available. If you downgrade the QB, you might as well tear both the offense and defense down and start all over. None of the moves made on offense since Emery got here make sense unless there's a QB in place who is capable of utilizing all these weapons.

Paea OUT! Our 3rd Nosetackle - Zero-One-whatever you want to call the guy in the middle on defense.

Even when he is in, the guy is bad. At least as a 1 or 0.

Tillman out tonight as well.

Briggs, questionable, but he will play.

You just cant keep picking up guys off the street and expect the team to win a Super Bowl. combine Melton, Collins and Paea with Peppers playing the invisible man, it just doesnt look great for this year.

HOWEVER, A Melton injury hopefully gets you a much better deal on him for 2014, Peppers will be cut, Collins is already cheap, Maybe #99 gets cut loose too? There is some money invested in his 1st round ass too. So, I look forward to 2014 a little more, than the way I see the defense falling apart (Physically) this year after 16 games.

Cutler will need to throw this team to the playoffs.

Dropped weight. "Got his wheels right"

Not sure it matters that much for the QB to bulk up. Less mobile and less flexibility isn't the goal.

The Hawks and the Bulls will be the only teams not rebuilding. Not a great time to be a Chicago fan.

just like last year, they had a chance to put a chokehold on a playoff spot and have now opened the door to every shithole team within a game of .500

losing three in the conference is pretty much going to kill them on tie breakers and they aren't pulling away from anyone so...goodbye season

OK, now it has happened.

What are we going to do about it.

Sure the Jay issue wasn't part of my doomsday scenario, but have to make do with that as well.

Maybe you have a chance in GB, just due to the fact they have no WR's left. So, while I dont expect a W, at least there is a shot to devise a plan to see what you can do against their backups.

Detroit, still doesnt look good, but you get them at home. And maybe Tillman is juiced up.

Then you go Ravens, rams and Vikings. 3 Bad teams! That puts Jay at week 5.

9 Wins going into final game v GB???? And ready to run the full spread offense with 4 WR's!

I am not an advocate of the Run and Shoot/4/5 WR offense, etc, but if the Defense is virtually non existant at some point, GOTTA TURN IT UP TO 11!

I think the GB game will be very telling about what we have in Trestman.

The only shot at winning is to put up 40+ on them so design a 40+ point gameplan
