This guy has made some serious judgement call errors. He might be over his head running everything. What happens if he makes another bad decision against Dallas? How much rope does one guy get, especially as a Bears Coach?

In 2014:

Bears would never one-and-done a coach. He'll get at least four years.

Virginia would pose nude before she would OK firing a coach after a single season.

No way.

Trestman is the coaching version of Emery. 2 odd guys who love football and are only in their position because of the team they work for.

This will be a scenario that plays out just like the Lovie regime. Shuffle assistant coaches in and out until finally, when it's been obvious to everyone but Emery, Trestman gets the ax.

I AM rooting for the guy and thought he was a good hire. I just hope things get better. I don't think we are even having thoughts like this if half the defense wasn't injured:

* Melton,Briggs,Tillman,Collins,Wright,McCellin have all missed games this year.

Jimmy, I'm sure you accidentally typed Wright and McClellin.

No,they are starters which is to suggest a dropoff behind them but Bass & the blond guy at safety seem at least equal.

Starters on the Bears is a pretty low bar. Kind of reminds me of Angelo bragging that the Bears had 22 starters from their Super Bowl team coming back.

He's made mistakes but offensively the team is headed in the right direction. You can't fire him and hire him as an offensive coordinator.

There's the problem.

Would have been a perfect O.C. But Trestman isn't going to make waves and he's odd like Phil so he's the logical pick for head coach.

Read the list of coaches hired by the Bears since Halas left in 67:

Dooley
Gibron
Pardee
Armstrong
Ditka
Wannstedt
Jauron
Smith
Trestman

Not really trusting this team to find the "next great thing" when it comes to coaches. They interviewed Coryell and Bill Walsh before hiring Neil Armstrong. Whoops.

I was not aware of that trivia nugget. Thanks for lowering my faith in the Bears further than I thought it could go.

Also this tidbit:

"The Bears inexplicably passed up an opportunity to take Montana in the third round of the 1979 draft even though the team’s scouts were high on him."

Less than a year as head coach and people are ready to be done with him.

You people are freaking amazing.

No one was going to be great here this year with this defense. That is not his fault.

The offense has made a lot of good strides this year and his work with McCown is nothing short of amazing.

When you take all things into consideration, I think Trestman has been better than average this year.

Absolutely has done a great job with the offense and McCown. Is he better suited as an O.C. or a head coach?

I am sure he would be a fine OC, but I do not think we can adequately judge whether he is a good or bad head coach yet. I think there are indicators that he will be a good HC, but too early to tell.

And and for the record I want nothing to do with anyone with the last name of Ryan as HC.

So you are saying we could have had Montana and Walsh to go along with Payton?

I'm sold that Trestman would be a great OC but I'm not sold on him as a head coach.

A lot will depend on how the players perceive his play-calling and other strategies. If they're bewildered like most of us are when it comes to things like kicking on second down, that will exhaust their trust and confidence in him sooner rather than later. The more they believe in him, irrespective of how the fans and media feel, then the more breathing space he'll have.

He's not doing himself any favors by throwing his team under the bus. He's been more interested in saying it isn't his fault. That's different from player coaches like Jauron and Lovie. I was afraid that he may not be the type of guy you want as the leader of the team. I've seen more than enough to be patient with him though. Hopefully he gets better.

I would love to see them rehire Lovie & make them both Co-Head Coaches. Lovie runs the D, Trestman runs the O. Neither get's in the other's way.

These are rookie type mistakes he won't be making again.

They're mistakes but I don't think they're of the rookie type. He's been around a long time, and the aggressiveness that characterized his beliefs in converting fourth downs went out the window when he timidly elected to kick on second down rather than aggressively going after more yards. That's not a rookie mistake, that's just bizarre and a whole lotta inconsistency.
