That took Lovie almost a month to do.

I guess he really was Tice's guy.

There should have been no CONNING here. Tice's kid was his roomie. Not saying he knows everything about him, but outside of the tape, the hardest thing about scouting is finding out all the off the field stuff on any kid. Not sure, you get much closer than Tice had info on him. I would guess Tice might have even gone to dinner with the kid a few times before even considering drafting him.

Nobody will ever know, but I just cant believe Tice didnt have a huge input on this.

Remember, this is the idiot who sold his Super Bowl tickets...........AND GOT CAUGHT!

Lets not go crazy though. Carimi was thought of pretty highly by most.

Kiper had him 23rd overall

he played for wisconsin, so that automatically got everyone's hopes up. Thank goodness jerry angelo was incompetent.... he wanted to trade up 3 spots to draft carimi, but if you recall he botched the trade with the ravens and carimi fell to him at 29.

i was shocked they cut him last pre-season, i figured he'd get one more run at it (having assumed poor health was why he was bad).

Yeah he was highly regarded and just about everyone was thrilled with the pick. Most thought we had the makings of a dominant offensive lineman for the next 10 years.

It was a good pick because the Bears thought it was a good pick at the time!

It was a good pick because it wasn't worse than the other ones.

I distinctly recall sitting across a table from Spaulding when the pick was made and she hated it from day 1. I completely dismissed her opinion.

Fuckin' Jerry Angelo. Wow.

There was the board member who was in love with Angelo & actually thought he was a great GM?
Then again, someone wanted coach Q fired last year too!

CSFMB's very own NAS thought that Webb and Chris Williams (!!!) would develop into the foundation for a dominant offensive line. For the Bears, not an Arena League team!!

I was a huge fan of Lance Louis and he proved me right until the cheap shot. I don't recall being high on Chris Williams though. Webb was a failure. He had all the potential in the world but it doesn't matter if you don't have the desire to work.

I love that the bears changed their whole offensive line, and next year with a healthy defense....ohhhhh watch out!

To be fair, Aldon Smith did that to like 5 Illinois players at once when he was at Mizzou.

-All 5 of those guys did not get drafted in the 1st round
-Half the teams didnt have him on the board due to the knee injury
-None of the teams had their OL coach's kid as the guys roomie!
-He was in Madison, a 3 hr drive. Some scout should have been at every home game of his.

I understand sometimes GM's miss a pick. Happens to all of them. But this is the pick that you dont miss on. This is the pick that distinguishes you as a GM. Even if you relied upon your Scouts and your OL coach, its your pick!

GM's get so caught up in how smart they are, whether it is the people they hired or how much they want to prove to everyone how they can find talent where nobody else can (Hayden Simpson!)

I agree Biggie. The biggest thing that pisses me off about Carmi is that he wasn't physical/strong enough. Shouldn't that be easy to scout?

The Packers took an equally useless or possibly more useless O lineman in the same draft in the first round. Now he had a horrific leg injury but the dude still hasn't recovered over 2 years after the injury. At least Carimi played some and netted a draft pick.

Carimi looks like a bad TE. Skinny legs on a tall guy, make for a real bad OL.

If you look at Kyle Long, the guys legs are like Redwoods

Signed by Atlanta. Surprise, surprise.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/falcons-si ... --nfl.html

Quote:
The Atlanta Falcons have signed veteran offensive lineman Gabe Carimi.

Carimi is a former Chicago Bears first-round draft pick who was cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason.

A former Outland Trophy winner from Wisconsin, Carimi played in 18 games with 16 starts for the Bears prior to being traded to the Buccaneers before last season.

He played in 14 games and started three games last season.

The 6-foot-7, 316-pounder was an All-American in college.
