Optimism abounded Tuesday as the Bears began their 2014 campaign with a 7:30 a.m. meeting to start their voluntary offseason program.

As the team takes the first steps in its attempt to improve on last season’s 8-8 record, no player exemplifies a new beginning more than Shea McClellin.

The Bears’ 2012 first-round pick recently spent 12 weeks with trainer Scot Prohaska in California. On Monday afternoon, Prohaska published eye-catching pictures of a shirtless McClellin taken before and after their work together.


Not only is McClellin leaner, stronger and faster in preparation for his switch from defensive end to strong-side linebacker, but Prohaska also witnessed in McClellin mental and emotional growth that could prove as valuable as any physical improvement.

“When I see a transformation in a kid’s soul or his heart, that is something,” Prohaska said. “He is a different man now.”

1. Nobody blocks him and he tackles a guy.
2. The other team runs into him, via QB roll out or Running back!

3 of my friends played in the NFL, every single one of them physically much bigger than Shea.

The ones who played College football, much bigger than Shea.

My guy Doug Pennington, Northwestern center, could easily have handled this guy and he didnt even make the NFL.

1. dude tried to put on weight and just got fat and now he is back to where he was when they drafted him
2. He's also like 6-4. still a large man. just not roided out like the rest of them.

His supposed physical stats make him bigger than Briggs and Bostic. Let's see what he can do at LB. He couldn't be worse than the shit that was out there last year.

who cares what the guy looks like without pads on? I care about what he can do on the field. This is his last shot. If he can play LB then great, otherwise boot him. I am glad he is working hard in the offseason, but if it does not translate to the field then it is worthless. But he will always hold a special place in my heart for injuring #12
