Emery continues to have what appears to be just a terrific offseason so far.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap200000 ... with-bears

Quote:
Bears signed Brandon Marshall to a three-year, $30 million contract extension.

In what we believe is a first, Marshall signed his deal live on the daytime ABC talk show "The View." The extension is tacked onto the $9.3 he was already owed in 2014, which means he's now on the books for $39.3 million over the next four seasons. The new contract includes $23 million guaranteed. It's a ton of coin for a sometimes mercurial player on the wrong side of 30, but Marshall has certainly earned it with on-field dominance. Since joining the Bears two years ago, he's averaged 109 catches for 1401.5 yards and 11.5 touchdowns per season.

I may be in the minority but I believe this is a deal the Bears will regret as early as the 2015 season. He's had too many hip surgeries and lower body injuries.

He can regress from 100 catches and 1400 yards and still be a very viable weapon for the Bears. Keep in mind that Alshon Jeffries is in his rookie deal and is under team control for 2 more seasons, as is Cutler.

I'm guessing it is structured in a way they can cut him after 2015 with minimal cap hit.

If Alshon is who we think he is, we might need to have used this money on him. I also worry that he is one crazy outburst away from suspension.

To argue with myself...

Alshon may only be what he is right now BECAUSE of Marshall.

He is also donating $1million towards mental health research, or something like that. (paraphrasing from what I heard on Carmen & Jurko). Very cool of him.

The cap is the only way you lose on these deals. Unlike baseball, they just cut guys that can't play anymore, umm Peppers.

I am okay with him losing a step. I'm afraid he may not be able to play.

He's definitely given a lot to metal illness research.

The donation is nice. I like the fact that he recognizes he has an illness and using his stature to make a difference. This shows a lot of self awareness.

A football player at risk for injury? Next you'll tell me Chris Sale will be on the DL at some point.

This doesn't apply to every football player though. No one was really concerned about a Cutler injury. We are talking about a 30 year old receiver that has had 2 hip surgeries and and other lower body injuries.

His game ages well. He probably will be fine. The price is seems a tad too high though.

Id really like it if they could report the VITALS of these contracts

What is guaranteed and when?

When can they cut the player with little to no cap hit?

Ask Jenny McCarthy.

I have been hearings for months about a possible extension, I would have seen how this season goes first...no need for this right now. I like most of Emery's moves except this...the Cutler contract was real dumb...n I would have let Tillman walk.

"the wrong side of 30"...the guy turned 30 less than two months ago

That Marshall trade was really fantastic. It was and is a better deal than the alternative of Vincent Jackson.

I think Tillman can still be effective if he can stay on the field . Don't have a problem with his deal.
