So we all know Briggs skipped practice for a day to open his steak joint. I heard Bowen was a bit peeved by it, said it wasn't a great idea.
This worked out nicely for Mannely on his first day, because on day 1 he got to say something controversial and get picked up in the Trib and Deadspin for coming out firing brimstone.

Is it really that big a problem? Of all the defense I think this guy could afford a day off better than everyone else. That being said it's kind of strange that he couldn't have handled this on a scheduled off day. I don't find this as big a deal as Bowen and Mannely did but I don't play the footyball so what the hell do I know?

What did you guys think?

The thing is, the Bears are off today. Why not open the restaurant today?

That makes too much sense. That being said I don't think it's that big of a deal. Briggs better be play well in the opener or he's going to get ripped media and fan wise .

Marv Levy would've made him write a position paper on it.

When you think about it would make more sense for Briggs to open a body shop/ recovery service.

It's not going to make them better or worse, but it just sets the bad example.

If Briggs was a terror and an all pro player, fine, go and do what you have to do, because more is asked of those players, but this is a guy who is hanging on for one last payday and from the looks of it, didnt work so hard to be ready for the season. Looks like he tasted lots of BBQ.

U also agree on B! Yes, it was will be his day off, the same day that he usually goes in for treatment. During the season, yes, you have a day off, but most guys dont take the whole day off. They go in, they watch tape, they got some treatment and go home. They just dont practice.

It's like going into work on a Saturday. You dont have to, but you do because you need to get things done.

Also, this shit can become issues.

"hey coach, my kid is doing a lemonade stand today, I gotta leave early"

Ditka would have been off filming a commercial for one of his many, many sidelines.

Speaking of that... Anyone else notice Ditka says in new stream commercial if he had a team like BMW guys he would have won more titles? That is a little awkward writing.

Looks like Lance really had his shit together ready to open.

Just cant get a webiste up to support it.

I would say the odds of a place making it today as a new venture in dining without a web presence are less than 1 %.

People look at menus now, they order online, they look at photos etc.

if i opened a place, this would be a priority. Not just a cover page.

No issue at all. He isn't a first year player and they did absolutely nothing important yesterday. From what I heard he didn't have control over when it opened.

I agree. I heard the K.Long interview on Waddle and Silvy and he sounded annoyed that Briggs had the day off.

He said, "He didn't even notice Briggs was missing from practice." and that if Trestmen gave him a personal day it must have been for something important. Even though he said he read online that Briggs had the day off to open his restaurant, then he made that comment about not noticing him being gone.

Beardown, where are you to start a new thread on this?

It's his restaurant. How does he not have control? Is John Taff majority owner?

"91.2% of the customers come to see you Briggs. Get your ass here for the opening of your dam restaurant! It's bad enough you ate 46.4% of the first months profits. Practice is going to net you 0.00% for your time invested. You come to this opening and you will make thousands my friend. Let me handle the pussy Trestmen. Will tell him this is part of the process of building a defense."

Not to sound like Beardown, but you could hear it in his voice that he was annoyed. He doesn't give the bullshit answers that you would hear from a Lovie run team or a Zac Zeidman update.

Briggs opening in Elk Grove, California is doomed to failure.
One day he'll wish he had opened it in Berwyn, just like the Big Hurt.

This venture is doomed.

I don't think this is the big deal some are trying to make over it. He missed one day of practice after six weeks. Hell he didn't even play last week, because no one cared.

But this sounds like a damned fool ass idea. Opening a BBQ restaurant 2K miles from where your celebrity is? Is the Lambo dealer involved?

It would be OK with me only if he partnered with Kenny Williams and the guy who used to own The Wild Hare.

In his defense, every new restuarant these days seems to be BBQ or Mediterranean.
