Listening to the Score and general sense from comments sections below McCown articles there seems to be a "I can't wait to see McCown fail in Tampa" sentiment from Bears fans. Why? It's freaking weird. All the cowboy did was go from coaching high school football to being a beyond solid backup. He essentially saved the Bears season last year by outplaying Cutler and never once was he a distraction.

I think him outplaying Cutler was the distraction.

All the Bernstein type voices want to see him fail because they suffered from cognitive dissonance last year and lost all credibility by continuing to push forward with the Cutler narrative despite all the evidence in front of them.

That being said he won't produce at the same rate he did last year IMO.

I think people want to believe the Bears made him, so if he fails in Tampa, it's a positive reflection on the Bears.

It would make Lovie look bad and Trestman look good.

Is this friendly Packer fan trolling or are a significant portion of callers saying this?

Not a significant portion of callers. But you hear B&B + Laurence saying they can't wait until he bombs. The "smart" segment of fandom appears to want him to fail. By no means is this the consensus overall feeling but just why does it even to exist? I was jealous of his performance over the Packers Seneca Wallace, Scott Tolzien, Matt Flynn triumvirate of suck.

Come on man. That's the same as Sox fans assigning BeerStain's Theo cock sucking to Cub fans

I hope McCown does well in 15 games next year

That game against the Bucs will be interesting with all the McCown and Lovie chatter. They should be
much improved against what should be a pretty solid Bears squad.

I agree. I hope he does well because he is likeable and seems like a stand up dude, but I actually don't care overall. Obviously I want him to do poorly against the Bear but do awesome against the rest of the NFC Nort.

Agreed, I have no problem with McCown...I hate Lovie...Id love to see Lovie go 10 -38 over the next 3 years n get canned. McCown has some real good wideouts tho, I think hell perform o.k.

They have a GREAT young defense that may be a year away from making some noise.

If Lovie has a very good - to -great defense n they force turnovers , I will admit to being wrong about his coaching ...I don't see it.

You would be in the minority when it comes to his ability to coach a defense.

Who did he ever coach up and make a better a player? I cant think of one guy. He has a system and if you have good pieces in place his system works. I dont appreciate a damn thing he ever did.

No. Jennings still made the pro bowl last season under Trestman.

Lovie still made him better. Trestman just didn't have him get worse.

I dont get the sense most bears fans want mccown to fail... i think a lot of the meatball fans would rather he be here and cutler be gone.... way to create a strawman for discussion purposes ala bernstein

i don't give two craps how mccown does in Tampa... personally I liked what I saw from Mike Glennon last year so I dont get why they gave mccown so much money.

Why Do Bears Fans Want Cutler To Fail? is the better question.

I think fans want Lovie to fail. He has a decent young QB who made good progress last year, yet Lovie would rather pay McGowan $5 Million a year to be the starter. The Bucs should have written Offense out of Lovies contract.

The $5M criticism is bullshit.
Quote:
The journeyman quarterback will make $4.75 million in 2014-15 and $5.25 million in 2015-16, the sources told Schefter. The deal also guarantees $4.75 million, a source told ESPN.com's Michael C. Wright. McCown's agent, Michael McCartney, confirmed the two-year deal.

He can earn $5 million more in incentives -- $1 million each year for playing time and another $3 million for reaching the playoffs, sources told Schefter.

Only $4.75M is guaranteed which is always only what matters. He's a decent insurance policy if Glennon doesn't perform. Simple as that. But please, bleat the B&B stupidity horn of not understanding situation or context.

C'mon Kirko. You can jump all over Scorehead for any number of things, but him saying $5 mil as opposed to $4.75 mil isn't one of them. Toe-may-toe, toe-mah-toe

"Only" $4.75M? Didn't Lovie sign McGowan to be the starter? Who pays a backup $5 Mill?

No, as usual he's talking in binary terms. McCown is guaranteed 4.75M. That means at minimum a cap hit of $2.375 spread over 2. Everything else is base salary and/or performance escalators. That is not a horrible deal for an insurance policy. I wonder if McCown's performance last year was worth $5 million?

Oh woah woah woah McCown only suceeded b/c of Tresty and his system Scorehead will say. Well Tampa will have two trees in Vincent Jackson, Mike Evans, Sefarius Jenkins at TE and Doug Martin at RB with a solid unspectacular OL. The Bucs will have a killer defense given all their young talent.

ATL and CAR are rebuilding of sorts so the division/wild card is right there and one half of the ball you know will kick ass. I would love to be shown why spending fine let's say $5m on a Glennon insurance is a stupid decision. The worst case Glennon proves to be for real or McCown sucks so he gets cut thereby eating $2.375M of their cap next year. I think that's a GOOD gamble. Details are tough to grasp for SH.
