I have to agree with Doug's post-game assessment yesterday in putting the loss on the defense rather than on Cutler. In the process Doug indicted everyone responsible, Emery and Trestman included, for signing such inept players on defense. You're playing against probably the best QB in the game and you couldn't get a rush all day, nada. While the game planning on offense was good to use Forte and the run against GB, there was no game planning whatsoever on defense. Not one thing Mel Tucker did slowed Rodgers in the slightest.

Worst part of the game was the 7 points the Bears left on the table in the first half by not getting a touchdown on 1st and goal when Trestman forgot the offense had a good running game going and the failure to come away with at least 3 points before half. If the Bears come out of the half on top by 3, Cutler does not feel the urgency he did to throw the first pick when he forced it. While they still might have lost, it could have been much closer in the 2nd half without Trestman screw-ups in the first half that cascaded into a disastrous finish.

Now we go back to characterizing the Bears the way we did after Buffalo - mediocre offense susceptible to erratic play by Cutler and Marshall under a bad game manager in Trestman, and a defense that cannot stop anyone.

Big Doug is right. The majority of the loss should be hung on the defense and D Coordinator. I was surprised at how poorly they played after being able to handle the Read Option fairly well in back to back games. Willie Young was invisible and they got no pressure on Rodgers, who must now salivate at playing the Bears twice a season.

The remainder should be spread around to Trestman, Cutler and Marshall. Trestman's clock management at the end of the first was abhorrent and the on-side kick just smacked of desperation. It was like giving your assassin extra bullets to finish you off.

Cutler's first pick was bad placement and in traffic and typifies Jay Cutler. I did not see the second one but I've read Marshall was freelancing his route and Jay's throwing to where Marshall should have been.

That being said it's a long season and anything can happen in the NFL I guess. However, I fully expect the Bears to let everyone down again.

I want to like Cutler, but he's just not worth putting any faith in because the sample size shows he's not that good and will crack at the absolute wrong time.
