I hope Rex can add that to the already sizeable chip on his shoulder.

Honest question:

Why does anyone care what ESPN or idiots like Dr. Z have to say about anything? That's not how games are won or lost.

You know what's more funny about the stupid people at ESPN. If this poll was taken in 2001--Brady's first Super Bowl-- Tommy boy would be on that poll in Rex's spot. I'm not saying he's gonna be Brady but my god if you look at Grossman's overall stats I'll bet he's in the top half of the 80 QB's seasons who have started the last 40 Super Bowls. Hell, he's pretty comarable to McMahon. Mac missed 3 games in 85. He had like 15 TD's and 11 picks.

Mac didn't play a full 16 but his comp % and his y/att were similar. More of a run game in 85 though. Didn't rely on the pass like today.

From the Grossman Whining again MJH thread...

Jimmy---Rexy

Attempts Jim=313 Rex=480 (no surprise there. More runs in '85)
Comp% Jim=56.9 Rex=54.6 (not much difference there)
P-Yards Jim=2392 Rex=3193 (WOW! almost 1,000 more yards!)
TD's= Jim=15 Rex=23 (Big difference there.)
INT's Jim=11 Rex=20 (There's the rub)

No. Mac missed 3 games. Including the Dallas blow out that year.

Here's and interesting comparison. The great John Elway. His first Super Bowl following the 86 season vs the Giants.

55% completions. 3,485 yards. 19 TD's. 13 picks. A 79 QB rating.

A little better then Rex but not a whole lot. My point is somebody with Rex's numbers should not shock people that he's in the Super Bowl

Agreed Beardown. It's an overtalked element of this Superbowl we still have to hear about for another ten days...

This is all very nice but none of the other QB's mentioned in this thread or that webpoll are in the Sexy Business, so there is no comparison.

Just to beat this to death. I looked up Phil Simms stats when he took the 86 Giants to the Super Bowl.

He had 22 TD's and 21 picks that year. Very similar to Rex with the yards and ratings as well. Just goes to show you there have been QB's like Rex through out SB past.

We romaticize these guys after the fact and Phil went on to have a OK career. But when alot of these guys first apear in this game there stats are not off the charts.

Simms would have been voted the worst QB in SB history if the poll was taken before that game. Then he has one of the best SB ever (22-25). And his legend is born.

I don't know if anyone has watched America's Game on the NFL network but they recently had the story of the 86 Giants. Simms early career was very similar to Grossman's. Simms was a first round pick who was not well liked by some fans or even teamates, Lawrence Taylor if i recall questioned his toughness.

Simms also suffered from inconsistent play and injuries early in his career. It wasn't until his sixth year until he became undisputed starting QB.
