Greg Gabriel wasn't sure about him, which means he must be great

let's do this thing.

drafting receivers high in the 1st round is a mistake.

nope. recievers are a product of their quarterback and offensive system.

just ask the patriots, seahawks, ravens, giants, packers, saints, and steelers who all won without top-10 drafted WRs.

the colts were perhaps the most recent team to win with highly drafted receivers in Harrison (1-19) and Wayne (1-30).

Let me refine it then. Drafting these receivers high in the 1st round is a mistake.

Sammy Watkins (4th overall), Odell Beckham Jr.(12th overall) and Mike Evans (7th overall) concur.

You have to give the team successes a couple of years to catch up with the game day successes. We have just entered the door on this new era for WR drafting.

Beasley, Williams, Fowler will all be gone

I am not taking the risk on Gregory and Ray. I am fine with trading down slightly at that point. Some think there will be no trading partner but I promise you someone has White as their #1 overall talent in this draft.

Yeah, but Matt Millen's no longer a GM.

I like Cooper over White. Cooper's size concerns me but I think he's a much more skilled receiver than White.

White scares me. He's got great size and speed but his rise has been based on the Combine moreso than what he put on film as a receiver. That usually doesn't work out well IMO.

I'd be fine with Cooper but I still think there's a chance Beasley is there at 7. Although, I didn't like hearing Beasley this morning on M&H saying the Bears never really talked to him.

correct, a RB-type era.

where the supply of receivers is immense.

RK PLAYER TEAM REC TAR YDS
1 Antonio Brown, WR PIT 129 182 1698
2 Demaryius Thomas, WR DEN 111 184 1619
3 Julio Jones, WR ATL 104 164 1593
4 Jordy Nelson, WR GB 98 151 1519
5 Emmanuel Sanders, WR DEN 101 141 1404
6 T.Y. Hilton, WR IND 82 130 1345
7 Golden Tate, WR DET 99 142 1331
8 Dez Bryant, WR DAL 88 138 1320
9 Jeremy Maclin, WR PHI 85 143 1318
10 Odell Beckham Jr., WR NYG 91 132 1305
11 Randall Cobb, WR GB 91 126 1287
12 DeAndre Hopkins, WR HOU 76 127 1210
13 DeSean Jackson, WR WSH 56 94 1169
14 Alshon Jeffery, WR CHI 85 145 1133
15 Rob Gronkowski, TE NE 82 130 1124

Julio Jones is the highest pick at 6. The rest were taken in the teens or after the 1st.

I'd take a guy like Scherff who I can pencil in next to Long at RT for the next 6 years rather than a WR.

Jags and Raiders looking to eat up Cooper/White.

If either of Cooper/White are still there at 7, teams that might trade up with the Bears:

Chiefs (no WR caught a TD pass last season)
Texans
Browns
Panthers
Ravens
Saints

If true, that is a good thing for the Bears.

That ensures that either Fowler, Beasley or Williams is a Bear.

Seems like Jax is trying to manipulate a trade by word leaking they will take Cooper at 3

A feeling of someone that covers the team but has not stated it out loud or in print.

I'm not sure what you get in Kevin White that don't get in Davante Parker or Breshard Perriman further down the draft.

Perriman ran a 4.24 at his Pro Day, so it's clearly not speed. And Parker goes and gets the ball better than any WR in the draft.

Take it for what it is ...

https://twitter.com/AroundTheNFL/status/593456775552061440

Kevin White on the Bears: “I feel like if I’m there at 7, I think they will pick me.” Bears talked to him about filling Marshall’s void.

I'd much prefer they take an edge rusher than a WR here and then try to pick up Devin Smith or Tyler Lockett in the 3rd or 4th.

Or maybe you get really lucky and Dorsett drops into the 3rd.

Maybe they'll think that between the regime/scheme change and banking on lightning not striking thrice (e.g., historically abysmal defense), that they can roll the bones on augmenting the offense in a league built on favoring offense ... and if it doesn't work this year, who cares, it's the first year.

I suppose we'll find out one way or the other soon enough.

Third? They will be lucky if he is there when they pick high in the second.

Smith would have made a lot of sense if Marshall were still here. He is a one route WR right now.

If not White/Cooper, I think they should look at guys like Strong/Dorsett in the second, if they are lucky enough to drop

Parker isn't going to go that much further down. They certainly aren't getting him in the second.

You could probably move down to 10 or 12 and still get Parker.

Agreed.

So why are teams in that area looking to trade up to get White?
