Its over for this season, they will get a top 5 pick next year. Unless of course we shouldnt take that pick because losing and getting high picks is bad business according to some?

Find a Qb that might not have worked somewhere else, but has some tools. Like CAN THROW THE BALL DOWNFIELD....thus eliminating Jimmy Clausen from that discussion.

Of course , none of the guys they would get are favored to become an NFL QB, but give a guy another chance and you never know, but you cant make a 6 foot QB into a starter, throwing 5 yard out routes.

Blaine Gabbert, Got get Mike Glennon, Bryce Petty in NY.....this season is going to be over by week 8 or 9 and it will be tryout time, yet, we wont have anyone to tryout!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shane Cardon? Our newest version of Caleb Hanie...high football IQ guy, gonna do lotsa of running ......

Pisses me off when I see a team like this not ready to fail and have a PLAN....yes not THE PLAN...but A PLAN....John Fox is trying to win...and I am not sure what Ryan Pace is doing besides loading up on 30+ veterans.

I know teams usually dont trade during the season, but this team, this year better start looking NOW....

I hope you're not comparing football where nobody actually goes to the eight games to losing on purpose with a 162 game planned death march in baseball. With football you just have one of the girls bring you a big bowl of chili, crack a nice craft brew from your fridge, and root for your fantasy guys. It's fine to tank a season.

You can't trade players like Ratliff or Forte. Most of the good teams that would want them are at the cap limit and couldn't take on their salaries as their rosters are set. NFL trades for high money players never happen in season. They rarely happen at all for that matter. But never in season because of the cap.

Forte is an 8 million dollar player. Even the bad teams can't take that on right now.

would guess someone has a Jared Allen they can trade back with a draft pick.

Love when someone feels the need to explain the issues of cap implications in trades,I think basic sports fans understand that at this point.

Spot on Beardown.

Any teams with $8M in cap space are not looking to add veterans near the end of their career. I would doubt that they want to rework a contract and guarantee Forte even more. I'm not sure Ratliff is that big of a cap hit though.

Most trades in NFL in-season are unwanted guys on rookie contracts drafted by old regimes (Bears case: Vereen, Carey, Shea) or cheap vets like Mundy or Ratliff.

Those will only yield maybe 6th but likely a 7th.

No one wants a Allen, Houston, Jennings. One vet who you could maybe snag a pick for is Bushrod. But that'll leave the Bears fucked on the line.

Al'shin' is $1.4 M....are you that sure you are going to resign him for BIG money that you know he is going to want....I am not

Jay R is $1.8 M....dont think someone would be OK with that?

Jarvis is $800K

Mundy is $1.5 M

Will Montgomery is $660K

tracy Porter is $585K

This team is loaded with affordable veterans to trade if they show any value this year!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Forte is the best case scenario of getting something back in a trade...Seatlle has Mebane at $6 M this year! Plus they have TONS of Young talent to trade to trade the cap money even...and they are a team that can use what they thought percy Harvin would be...

Keep explaining it to me, hopefully I will understand WTF you are talking about for this inability to trade?

I will allow your blinded Bear glasses.

I will watch Langford and Goldman this year.

I will hope Jones is the LB people claim he is....would like to see Bostic excel, McPhee, Jenkins, show me a reason to keep them for 2016.

Eddie Royal will now be the featured WR...I hope he produces real numbers, I dont feel good about that...see tons of underneath stuff for 4 yards.

I am in huge doubt he has a great season. I see the talent, but I have also seen a skinny kid that cant take the beating in the NFL....

There is also a floor for the cap in the NFL. Teams need to meet that. So they can't dump salary to be below it. They'd be fined and/or lose draft picks. You site me the example of an NFL team doing what you are suggesting? You want to trade 5 or 6 guys? It doesn't happen. I know. I'm the idiot, though. Plus, what are you gonna get back for most of the guys you mentioned? Nothing.

An unproven, first round wide receiver (a position that is notoriously unreliable as a first round pick) might be done for the year and therefore the season is over so we should tank it and trade everyone.

Is there something I'm missing that leads people to this conclusion?

Just a fountain of information! The NFL Cap Floor...BREAKING NEWS....

This Bears team needs draft picks...thats the value they need.

So if you trade a Good Player, like Ratliff who makes $1.8 M for a crap player who makes $1.8 mill, you then get a draft pick to compensate your portion of the deal.

Beardown, what do you do for a living? I hope it has little to do with money.

This was a bad team before that happened....but add that with Alshon in a boot and crutches this week.....but Pace says he is going to play...and maybe you saw the first drive for Miami in preseason?

of course they will get better, its football, most teams improve as the season goes on, but a team that has a bar set at 7 wins....and just so you know...if you want to be the UNDER on that 7 games now in Vegas it is a -165!!!!!!!!!!!

The lack of talent on this team is massive and White, people hoped would be the stud WR that you need in the NFL to help plan around....so while he wasnt going to make them a playoff teams, its a big blow to an already not good team.

But you're not gonna get good drat picks for the guys you mentioned. Maybe a 6th at best. The way you're talking, well be getting 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounders. No. Hell, you got a late rounder for Marshall and you also had to throw in one of your picks.

Randy Moss, in his prime, only cost the Patriots like a 4th rounder I think.

This is a transition year for the Bears. The record doesnt matter. They need to teach & implement their systems, then next year they can start working on executing the system at a higher level. The Bears know that they aren't contending for the Super Bowl this year. Gotta give the new regime of Fox, Fangio & Gace time to change the culture & get their systems in place.
No need to panic now & make silly trades.

Yes, you are correct, we get CONDITONAL Picks......which they need. THEY NEED PLAYERS, THEY NEED BODIES UNDER 30!!!!!!!!!!

This league is Speed! You cant have 30 slow veterans that know what to do , but cant anymore!!!!!!!

Even late round picks.....4th, 5th and 6th....you get a 4th round for Moss when he says he is going to sit out...and you take whatever you can get

You do a ton of assuming....I dont think, nor did I say we are getting any 1st, 2nd or 3rd round picks....but that helps your point, so you claim its what I think....

I dont think Pace is being very aggressive right now, because he hired or Ted hired a veteran coach who is running this team, who wants nothing to do with rebuilding today.

Mulligan says it all the time. "You hire the coach to win right now, you hire the GM to protect the organization from winning right now at all costs"

Beardown, you want to be the guy sitting on his ass complaining and doing nothing about it?

I'd like to do what you suggest. I just don't think there is a market for even 6th rounders for most of the Bears players. And collecting a bunch of 6ths, will not help the cause anyway, despite the fact that this team needs young bodies. Cuz most 6th rounders are bad young bodies.

And there have been a bunch of teams in the Bears situation over the years. I'm sure those GMs would want to do what you suggest. There just isn't the market.

Plus, if other teams wanted the cheap 30+ year olds that the Bears signed on one year deals, the good teams would have signed them. Because if the money was the same, these players would have went to the better teams. Not the Bears. Now teams are gonna give up picks for them when they didn't make them offers in the off season? No.

If you are going to do this, you better get multiple draft picks per deal, b/c tanking for higher picks doesn't necessarily work more picks, more odds of getting good players and they better make sure that the coach is on board. Otherwise, the respected coach quits and the bears quickly become even more of a laughing stock in the league...we would be Cleveland Browns/NYJ level of bad.

Not now..the market exists during the season when teams need these guys and the value of them to your team is meaningless.

You know, all this talk about "needing to draft well" is true to a point. But it basically is getting the stud QB more than anything.

Take the Rams for example. Great drafts over the last few years. Got a bunch of picks for RGIII. They have a lot of talent. Especially on defense. Still haven't made the playoffs the last 2 years despite their talent. Why? Bad QB play, obviously.

If you compare the Packers roster, taking away the QB, to other NFL rosters, it's the same in talent. If you take away Luck from the Colts and compare their roster to other NFL teams, the Colts are below most teams in talent.
