Will finish it another time, but I dont need to read why anyone would justufy drafting a guy that easily shows the physical tools to play NFL QB. I would say for everyone one guy that can all the throws an NFL QB needs, there are 20 guys who are game managers, gritty, etc....but cant make the throw....thus, will never play QB in the NFL.

If your arm can throw 25 yard out routes on a dime, you are a lock to be drafted in the NFL...(Assuming you played college football)

The interesting part is the explanation for why he didn't become what all the scouts said he would be. It wasn't really about why he was a first round pick, although there were some quotes from scouts about why he shouldn't be.

Jay is by far the best QB that came out of that draft.

Vince Young
Matt Leinart
Jay Cutler
Kellen Clemens
Tarvaris Jackson
Charlie Whitehurst
Brodie Croyle
Brad Smith
Ingle Martin
Omar Jacobs
Reggie McNeal
Bruce Gradkowski
D.J. Shockley

This is gonna (continue) to kill some people's battle cry.

You know what else? No more "UGH JAY IS THE HIGHEST PAID PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE" bullshit anymore either. Not even top 5. Is he even top 10?

Weird how the "salary" thing has quieted down. Same contract.

Do you think Jay Cutler is a top 10 player in the league?

Do you think Jay Cutler is capable of winning a Super Bowl with an average defense?

Lastly, do you think Jay Cutler has performed to the expectations people had when the Bears traded for him?

wouldn't it be ironic if the guy drafted jay cutler because vaccines gave him a losing combo of brain damage and autism?

FYI - his total cash this year is number 10.

His cap hit is 12.

1). I could not come up with a list of "top 10 players" in the NFL. Positions matter. That being said....no Cutler is not.

2). Yes. Absolutely.

3). No. Because there are a lot of insane expectations out there, and he needed to play better as well.

What point? That he is overpaid and a huge cap hit? No, not in my book.

Are you saying that because he's no longer the biggest cap hit in football, he's a value?

I'm saying the Anti-Jay crowd loved to harp on "he's the highest paid player in the league". This is a fact. That was probably the biggest criticism I heard about him for.....18 months.
It's stopped.

Suddenly....the criticisms have gotten quieter. Not gone away....just quieter.
But the weird thing is, he's under the same contract. Same money. Same team. Same deal.

I'm pretty sure people just stopped giving a shit about the Bears.

Convenient.

Just an honest answer, actually.

I don't understand your point, though. Are you saying that because Cutler is the 10th highest paid player instead of 1st (I'm not sure if he ever actually was 1st), people now see his value?

It has stopped because he isn't the highest paid player in the league. Seems logical.

It hasn't gone away. It's just basically settled that Jay is a league average starting quarterback who is paid as an elite quarterback and that doesn't seem like it is going to change at all. The Bears are completely screwed at being anything more than a .500 team with this situation, and even that seems like a long ways away. Pointing this out doesn't really seem to be pretty revolutionary, and most Cutler posts are barely even responded to now.

We could talk about it after every game, and the purgatory the Bears are in was predicted as soon as he signed that extension by many, but then you'd just get the "You just hate Jay Cutler" posts.

Instead, I just root for the Bears to have an absymal season which shows everyone involved that regardless of how good or bad Jay is, it isn't working here, and won't work here, and there needs to be a change. It's just a shame that last year was not the year that let them know that since there is still a lot of pain from the contract next year that could have been somewhat avoided. Unfortunately, I see the Bears saying "Well, he's not terrible, and that is a lot of money still, so let's keep him another year, and we can draft a QB in the third round" and then we jump on it all again for one more year.

If drafters were guaranteed the career Jay Cutler has had at the time he was drafted, he would still be a very highly drafted QB. Jay is hardly a bust, or someone you have to justify drafting highly

It's still the same player with the same contract. It didn't make sense when people were dwelling on it.

It matters a great deal, and it still does.

He isn't the highest paid player in the league now though so it would be dumb to say he is the highest paid player in the league.

His salary/cap hit still is way too high for his level of play.

No, he doesn't.

The arguement has never been why is Jay Cutler on our team at a rookie wage rate.

I agree with him too. If you could draft someone with the exact same skills/resume as Jay Cutler you do it.

But, like Denver did, you realize when it is time to move on.

Of course it did. Cutler was and is a below-average player and that contract was and is an abortion.

Not true. The expectations are very high for QB's who are drafted in the first round. Certainly much higher than Jay has performed.
