When I played football for my grammar school (circa 1997), Mike Golic stopped by to watch practice for a week. Our head coach was Golic's father-in-law. At the time, Golic was playing for the Eagles.

Anyways, after running 'gassers', Golic told me that he liked my hustle. Afterwards, while doing tackling drills, he taught me proper tackling technique.

He seemed like a nice guy, but then again, i was 13.

in the summer of 1993, i was at summer football practice at st. laurence. tim grunhard, a st. laurence, notre dame national champ, and kansas city chief stopped by. he watched us do the drill where we side-stepped over tackling dummies. well, my foot caught on one of them and hurt my ankle. grunhard then said to me, "shake it off". i immediately wanted to perform for him.

i continued hobbling through drills for next few minutes, but couldn't continue.

so, grunhard picked me up like a sack of potatoes and carried me to the trainer's room. it turns out i broke my ankle. i THINK i hurt it even more by playing on it after grunhard encouraged me to suck it up.

I don't doubt he's a nice guy, he's one of the only ESPN "experts" that's not over-the-top too screamy. It's his bland, arbitrary, and which way is the wind blowing commentary that grates me.
