A very large man holds the door open for me. I say "Thank You Sir" and walk outside. As the door is closing and he walks in, I realize I recognize this individual.
He is about 6'7" and 300+....
I turn back inside. He is at the counter buying a book of stamps. It's me, him, and the cashier.
"Excuse me. Did you play for the Bears?"
"Yeah, I used to..."
"Left...No. Right Tackle?........Big Cat Williams!"
He smiles, "Yep."
I say, "Nice to meet you, Sir!" and he completely engulfs my hand in a handshake.
I make my way outside and back and as I'm getting in he says "Take care."

James "Big Cat" Williams.
cool guy.

If anyone remembers the banners they had or have hanging in the main walkway at Soldier Field?

a few years ago I was at the bears convention and I was at the bears promo booth where they sold al the old shit they had laying around and the Big Cat Banner was rolled up on the floor, for $50.

The have the dark blue background, with a picture of Big Cat printed on heavy vinyl. it is about 3 x 10, very cool.

they had B&W PR photos of almost every player, including doug, for only $1 each. I bought Doug, Fencik, Plank, Golden Richards, "Buddha", Mike Spivey, Hampton, Walter, Greg Latta and a few more, point being if you go, get over to the Bears booth.

Back when I was living on the North Shore, I ran into Big Cat Williams a couple of times at Hawthorn and had similar experience.
