First, another button 48 story but I like to give athletes who are perceived to be a tool a huge shout out when they are totally cool.

A buddy and me were lucky enough to get to go on the field to watch B.P. at the Sox game yesterday and as you know it was raining and the field was covered and very little was going on but the Yankees had to walk past the Sox dugout to go under the stadium and take B.P.in the cages below ..Make a long story short, Jeter walked by and we say hey what's up , nothing ..A-Rod , way to big for the room and wouldn't take his I-pod out of his ears to talk to anyone but Jason Giambi comes by and actually comes over and starts talking to us and asking about the weather and if it's going to rain all night. Shockingly I say "Man , your bigger in person than you are on T.V. " NOT Even thinking he might think I'm referring to the roids issue and he laughed and said "Not as big as I used to be"...I laughed and he took a picture with us and asked what kind of stuff does Gavin Floydd throw. Most down to earth guy I have met in sports .

Great guy and for a Yankee a very approachable guy. Sox guys not very approachable. .... I'll post some pictures later.

I wouldn't be too approachable if I was getting bothered at work either.

When the Sox staff bring people on the field it is for a meet and greet with both teams and the players are aware of this.Normally people who get to come on the field have paid a good chunk of change whether is it was through a silent auction or a charity sponsored event. It's not like people are showing up at their homes to bother them.

I did a favor for a buddy who works for the Sox and he wanted to bring us on the field as a thank you and who am I to say no to something like that .A thrill for me.

Baseball players are a different breed and hands down hockey players are the easiest guys to talk to.

I had my question for Crede Frank but he never came out of the clubhouse, dugout. The only Sox players we met were Thome and Brian Anderson.

I hear ya on why you were there and how you got there, but if I was a baseball player getting ready for a game I'd be trying to get in the zone.

I'd like to think I would be available to at least say hi and talk about the weather with anyone but day after day having people oggle at you for doing what you think is just normal day to day activity would be kind of annoying.

But that comes with the territory. As annoying as it may seem, MLB players are getting paid pretty handsomely, and they if nothing else be able to say hello or even give the 'whats up' head nod.

So you wouldn't be approachable when customers bother you at work? If the person is on the field, then obviously the White Sox have let them on there.

People bother me at work all the time -- I'm usually courteous but I don't razz a guy for not being courteous. Doesn't matter what you get paid you shouldn't big time anyone. But I understand and wouldn't fault a guy for being in the zone before a game.

Cool story Ed. Nice to have a different picture of the guy. I think work is the one place where everyone should be approachable. It doesn't matter if you are a high-paid athlete or a low-paid worker in whatever industry. If someone comes up to you at work, they must have a reason. And you should be sensitive to the situation. If you are not approachable at work, then it reflects badly on you and your organization. Being polite to people really doesn't take all that much time or energy.

I'm not saying ARod or Jeter should have broken bread with the guys, but a simply "whats up" is to almost be expected.

I agree that it is common sense to be nice to everyone when your int he spotlight but I don't expect high priced talent to follow normal rules of life. I don't expect them to be normal, i expect them to be an ass.

I can't fault Jeter and A-Rod for not saying anything. Even though the game hadn't started yet, doesn't mean they weren't getting ready to play. Some guys are so focused that they don't want to talk to anybody before a game, let alone complete strangers. Some guys can just roll out of bed and hit.

My son and I had a similar experience with David Ortiz a few years back.
Big Papi is the goods too.

Guy in the Sox jersey is Devin Hester who threw out the first pitch and was in guest in our Diamond Suite as he's friends with a long time buddy of mine.

Nice guy but very shy and quiet.I think he's a little overwhelmed by his fame.

Not enough pointing.

Spmack, show Ed how it's done.

Is that a bike sprocket hanging from Hester's neck?

It would have been a perfect time, especially with Devin Hester.
