When I was in 5th or 6th grade a buddy and I were playing catch. I lived in the twin cities Argo-Summit. They were putting in I-55 and one the aparments were for the engineers,An older man came out and started tossing the ball with us, He was throwing curves that broke around a tree taught us to throw a spitball.Then he said he could get in to any ballgame at anytime!Hey right old man! He showed us a card that said Urban Faber Hall Of Fame entitled to get into any ballgame at any time. I ran home and asked my dad if he know who he was ...he said sure Red Faber! Ask him about the time a player hit a ball off the speakers in centerfield against him( I forget the players name I think Tris Speaker) I came back and told him what my dad told me,and he said I'm a hall of famer and thats all your dad remembers.I got his autograph(which I have since lost)but that was my brush with fame or should I say Hall of Fame |
