Pat Bentkowski at Huck Finn Restaurant 10501 S. Cicero.

Les Grobstein autographing a baseball for me outside Wrigley Field and then again at VIPs over there on Clybourne and Weed St.

Why the hell would you ask Les Grobstein to autograph a baseball? No offense, Les.

I doubt you can get big bucks for that on E bay. I would imagine a clean baseball is worth more. Are you gonna display that on your mantle?

I once saw Grobber at the Old Country Buffet in Rolling Meadows. He was with his girlfriend. I stood behind him as we were filling our plates. Never said a word to him. Never wanted to ask for an autograph. My only thought was "I hope fuckin' Grobber doesn't take that last sweet roll." He didn't.

Grobber was at a tuck-a-buck? They must have had the free buffet going during the lunch time hour.

Benkowski's a good guy, he's the Polish Les Grobstein. He's much better than Adamle!

I wouldn't want to be caught in place A or place B, let alone place AB.

I grew up listening to the Grobber and as a long time Chicago radio guy (fan not employee), I always really enjoyed his work. He must have been like 'what is this nerd on'? but I was cool about letting him know why I thought it would be nice to have his signature on my ball.

It's signed by a bunch of Cubs from the 02-04 era and there in the middle of those headliners is Les. People come over and ask who the hell (then why the hell) that is.

I remember Pat Benkowski's show on the old AM1000. I never got why he always and still does plug those dump places in a part of Chicago I never even knew existed? Huck Finn Donuts and Soups and Burgers? Huh? Some dumpy sports bars? I still don't think these joints exist and if they do, they are in Pittsburgh or something.

Funny thing is, VIPs had Les and Kanye and I there under one roof at the same time. If that's not regal then I don't know what is.

Don't knock Old Country Buffet. It's not bad. I go about once a month. I like to not eat anything all day, go there for dinner and eat like a pig. It's not great food but it's a lot of food. It's not always horrible. They serve prime rib sometimes. It's good.

You can't have a bad salad. They have an excellent salad bar.

What the hell? You can spend 5 bucks for a McDonalds meal or 10 bucks for Old Country Buffet. OCB is better.

I used to do that for dinner back in college at ISU. Go for the lunch price but get the dinner food.

Old Country Buffet is nasty. Sorry...

I'm not sure why you'd purposefully starve yourself all day to fill up with mediocre food

I also find it to be a pretty depressing place. Like I actually feel sorry for the people in there. If i saw grobber in line there my faith in humanity would be shaken to its core

Goodness! I don't think I've been to one of those in six years. My girl friend and I took an elderly couple(neighbor friends of ours,in their upper 80's,now both deceased)there as a favor. They liked the place. We do not make a habit of going to OCB!

Thank you for clearing that up Les.

Hey how about that one night though at VIPs. The stars were out that night, ey? Me, Kanye, the Grobber all under the mirrored roof of the establishment known as VIPs.

You think a Pat Benkowski/Chuck Swirsky/Dan Azzaro have ever been there?

Add Cici's to that list...long story short, my wife works with the developmentally disabled and there are 2 guys she takes out to lunch/dinner for their birthdays since she's known them for along time. They're, uh, quite big eaters and they usually like Old Country Buffet. Since she was insisting I come this time I suggested Cici's since it might be slightly more palatable. I was wrong. The pizza was edible but it was like eating a loaf of bread there was so much dough to it. The "pasta buffet" consisted of one kind of noodle and some watery red sauce and some very disturbing looking alfredo sauce. To be fair it did seem geared much more toward kids and it was extremely cheap, $4.95. So it would probably be a really good place to take kids, $5 is probably cheaper than a Happy Meal

I'm telling you, Grobber, I saw you at the OCB in Rolling Meadows about a year ago. I didn't see you with any elderly people. It was just you and your girlfriend. I wouldn't lie about something so important.

I remember someone calling Dahl back in his heyday to say that he was standing in line with Coppock at a buffet. He said he took a bite of Chet's bacon when he was not looking and put it back on his plate. Whether it was true or not, it was good to hear it upset Chet.

Cute Dolphin, but not even Chet would allow that much less be seen in a buffet of that type.
