Lotsa publicity when they suspended gun sales after Newtown shootings. Looked like good guys, blah blah. I questioned it when it happened. Wondered if they just didnt sell that much? But they advertise heavily on the Outdoor channel, so they have to make a ton of $$$ from hunting and fishing?

They even released this statement:

Out of respect for the victims and their families, during this time of national mourning we have removed all guns from sale and from display in our store nearest to Newtown and suspended the sale of modern sporting rifles in all of our stores chainwide

Now we know why.

Dicks Sporting Goods has opened 2 new stores called FIELD AND STREAM, Yes, none of that other crappy sporting goods, now it is all Hunting and Fishing. Including Modern sporting rifles and AR-15's!

Congrats on playing off the Newtown shooting to get some publicity, then opening a store full of the product you claim you dont sell anymore! I only suspect they will have 100 of these stores by next year!

I'm out here in the sticks, so maybe I don't get it but I can't understand how Dick's Sporting Goods stays in business. They seem way too big and vastly overpriced.

If they stopped selling guns and ammo out of respect to the people affected by the Newtown tragedy, does their business venture mean that they no longer have respect for those people?

As far as I know they are operating a legal business. It's not illegal to sell ammo. Granted some people seem to think that ammo is only used to kill kindergarteners, but that doesn't have anything to do with a sporting goods store. They have a right to sell ammo because this is America and we allow people to own guns. If people don't like that there are plenty of places to live like England where not even the police get to carry guns.

Honestly, if you were a deranged person you could also kill a ton of people with your car. Pedestrians walk right in front of your car in the city. It really wouldn't take much. The issue is not guns or cars. The issue is people with mental health problems.

The people in America need to stop focusing on these shootings that get hyped up by the media and look at all the shootings in the city of Chicago and other cities due to gang violence. None of those gang members is likely able to lawfully purchase a gun, yet they still have them. The issue is not lawful gun owners who follow the law.

Nobody is giving them crap for selling guns and ammo. It was for their ridiculous claim that they would cease selling guns and ammo as a way to "show respect to those in Newtown", when they were just planning a different business venture to sell guns and ammo. Do you really not understand this?

I have never heard anybody say that ammo is only used to kill kindergartners. That was a stupid comment.

You have to be careful what you wish for. A new mult could rise to take his place.

I assume you mean by the end of next year, because by next year doesn't leave you a lot of time to spin these up.

Anyhow, here's a juicy bit of gossip:

Quote:
I am told they have an incredible amount of ammunition allocated for this store. There are about 1.4 million rounds of .22 LR in storage for this store. Rumor is that $8 million worth of ammo is allocated to this store.
