How can I trust that you believe in even a moderate amount of cleanliness in preparation when your ceiling tiles are not replaced the moment they get water stains or worse? I'm already pumping myself full of poisonous gluten. I don't really want to think about what your kitchen looks like if the place you literally want the customers to see is in that shape.

I went to a local deli to eat today, and while I was eating my sandwich I looked up and saw an area that not only looked to be water stained but also seemed to have some black sections mixed in. I didn't really want to investigate further since I had already gotten past the point of no return on my sandwich.

I think we all accept some amount of "I'm glad I don't know what actually goes on behind those swinging doors" but don't bring it out and basically advertise the fact that you either don't care or don't have enough money to fix things up.

The sandwich was tasty though.

What's so great about a Mom and Pop store? Let me tell you something. If my Mom and Pop ran a store, I wouldn't shop there.

I will take a pastrami on rye, with extra mold. Hold the asbestos.

Great sandwich shops all around NYC. last time there the driver drove through Queens to get to LaGuardia and we hit a corner deli to get sandwiches for the plane. Tasty spicy chicken sandwich for $4 and change.

No shit. At least the places here have the decency to have enough rodent infestation that the city shuts .them down long before the ceiling tiles get discolored

Too "city" for me.

Yup, and huge too.

I just prefer it with less black mold(maybe) on the ceiling.

I wish I could find the C. Howitt Fealz post where he describe eating tacos de sesos at a Mexican place on North Avenue, when an amorous buck came charging across the street and had to be put down by an Elmwood Park cop in the Johnny's Beef parking lot. I love tacos de sesos.

tough to find sesos tacos around town, maybe an off-menu item? La Pasadita on Ashland used to have em. brain tacos with green salsa and onions and cilantro--yum.

I hit a deer the other night. Will County Sheriff Deputy had to shoot it. As I recall the North Avenue thing was on Memorial Day or the Sunday before.

Fealz hasn't been around lately (or has he?) and the bat signal goes up and here he is?

Stick around. Take your coat off and stay awhile.

wife and I passed a guy yesterday loading a very dead deer into a very creepy blue minivan. Drove faster.

It's amazing how many restaurants, hotels and other businesses, fail to properly maintain their buildings properly. I notice these things all the time, it's unfortunately not uncommon. But in areas where food is being prepared, it's especially disturbing.

Next time you order, just tell them to hold the decaying ceiling tiles.

Restaurants are required to properly maintain ceilings over food prep areas. If you see one that bothers you that much then notify the health department.

I'm pretty sure nominating them for DBOTW will be effective.
