This guy is defending himself by saying that he left his unit to walk to the nearest base, thru miles of insurgent held territory, alone, with no support, and without telling anyone where he was going or why, in order to report "problems with order and discipline" in his unit. Never mind chain of command. Or the fact that it probably could have waited until he was back at base and he could report to the base CO or his LT's CO. No, he thought that his outdoor skills learned in rural Idaho, which, although known to be home to hundreds of units of insurgent forces intent on the destruction of the United States, probably wasn't the best training ground for such a lone wolf mission.
Among his complaints are soldiers not wearing protective gear. He also was bored, and thought his unit should be "kicking down more doors".

Many that is true, but an incomplete statement.
