Sunday night I am watching a Football Life, this particular episode involved Bill Walsh. I like these type of shows, I caught it a half hour in, what I saw was pretty good, their were stories I had never heard before.
One story involved Walsh thinking about resigning as head coach after a horrible '82 season to become GM and Mike White becoming head coach. Or Walsh claiming his headset malfunctioned at the start of a playoff game vs the Giants in '85
, forcing the Giants to not use their headsets. Of course the 49ers scripted their first 25 plays so being without headsets was an advantage to the 49ers. The next year the two teams once again met in the playoffs, Parcells confronted Walsh, basically warning him not to play the same trick again.
With about 20 minutes left in the episode I was interested in what they would say about the famous Bear weather game. My understanding was Walsh considered it one of his greatest triumphs, especially because it came against Ditka, his coaching antithesis. But after going to a commercial, they never came back to the episode, instead they had the NFL redzone guy, Nate Burleson and Heath Evans giving updates about the Pro Bowl.
WTF! If I wanted to hear updates about the Pro Bowl, I would turn to ESPN and watch the damn game. Then they started talking about the Super Bowl. Couldn't they wait and show the end of the episode first. What important thoughts does Heath Evans have that need to be discussed. Or is it that imperative that we see the Seahawk plane landing in Arizona?
