I don't disagree with any of this, but you apparently see a negative where I see a positive. That's the motivation, man.

You know, every 6'1" 80% free throwing shooting white boy who ever laced up a pair of Chuck Taylor's hates Eddy Curry. Eddy Curry is my hero. If I were a 6'11" dude with hands like his, I would be just like him. Fuck this game, get it over with, and let me get back to chasing pussy and playing video games (in my case it would have been betting horses). There are a lot more people out there like me and Eddy Curry too. Michael Jordan? That dude is a fucking psychopath. Who wants to put that kind of effort into anything. Now I suppose I'm going to get all kinds of argument from a bunch of "highly motivated and hard working" businessmen who are cheating their bosses out of time by playing on the Internet. Where is Scorehead when you need him?

I don't see it as a negative, necessarily. And I can appreciate it. I was a 6'1" try hard white boy. I just don't find it aesthetically pleasing to watch. A lot of the NBA's problem is the length of the regular season and the fact that everyone makes the playoffs. I disagree that they aren't giving maximum effort in the playoffs.

I never said they aren't giving max effort. I just believe that in most cases the max effort of a seasoned professional is different than that of a guy on his last run before reporting to Kirkwood.

The part of your post I bolded speaks to the way the NBA markets and also the way many people watch it. Sure, I know some people live and die with their teams, but there are a lot of people that just want to "appreciate greatness", see guys "posterized", and watch highlight plays. I have no interest in that at all.

To me this is funny because it is true of every sport, pro or "amateur". Especially after college football has now gone to 14 game seasons for at least 30 teams.

baseball is fun to play even if your team sucks. if you're a hitter you're going to try and hit the ball no matter what. Football, better give 100% or you're going to get your head knocked off.

The problem with the NBA is the first round of the playoffs is a total waste of time. And sometimes the 2nd round too. How many good series are in the first round every year? 1 or 2? And those are usually the 4v5 games which don't matter anyway cause the winner is gonna get killed in the next round.

How often are there upsets in the NBA playoffs? Very rarely unless you are talking minor upsets.

Compare this to the NHL playoffs where every series is a war, doesn't matter what the seeds are. And upsets can happen in ANY series. This year both conferences lost their #2 seeds in the first round.


As for the NBA, what's the point of watching the Western Conference playoffs until the Finals when its Warriors vs Spurs? And are there any teams in the East that even have a chance? NBA should go to an 8 team playoff.

Why do some hockey fans continue to nurse their feelings of inferiority by constantly & pointlessly weighing in on the NBA?

Take the tv ratings participation trophy & resulting shrinking salary cap for the low national ratings the sport generally gets and leave it that.

The NBA is awful. It is too Star-driven. That may appeal to some but it just doesn't work for me. There are limited players on the court which means the star treatment is that much more amplified which impacts the outcome of the games. Yes, the other sports have it but it's just not as extreme and consequential as it is in basketball.

Add in the fact that the last 60 seconds of clock time is constantly stopping. Fouls, time-outs...start, stop, start, stop. start, stop.

There are a ton of NBA fans out there...congratulations to you...I'll pass. Same as Gold. Same as NASCAR. tons of fans that enjoy the product...I'm very happy to not be one of them.

It only frustrates me b/c I think basketball can be an exciting game. Golf, forget about it. Maybe if there were landmines placed in the fairway.

That's what makes football and basketball perfect sports for the DVR. I can watch an entire football game in under 20 minutes with good use of the fast forward. 15 minutes if Peyton Manning is playing QB cause he always takes the play clock down to the buzzer. Basketball the same thing....between free throws and fast forwarding until there is 15 seconds left on the shot clock you can shave a couple hours off a basketball game.

Hockey, not so much. Too much nonstop action.

The NFL is hardly the gold standard. most certainly they have too many breaks for TV.
