because there were only like 15 of them. now there are 40+. it isn't the bcs and the playoff ruining them, its the oversaturation of the market. by the time the ones that matter are on, you've been bombarded with the bob evans sausage bowl and the tirerack.com bowl watching 6-6 teams see who can give up the most safetys.

I spent more time reading this thread than I did watching college football this season and I didn't even get through the first page.


college football might be the worst tv sport out there these days unless you are a fan of 4 hour marathons. Why do the games take so long? Even NFL games manage to finish is 3:15.

Stopping the clock on first downs really slows the game down. Also pass attempts per game have gone way up in the past decade, which means more stops for every incompletion.

The games take too long but college half time is 20 minutes long which makes up about half of the difference between the average time of NFL and college games.

The clock also stops more and the pace of play in college is higher. At the top tier of college football the average plays is 72 compared to 64. Also, in college, they score more points which extends the game.

Basically, it takes longer but a lot more happens.
