It does make it less egregious. Literally the penalties are far worse.

Try them both.

No one is saying they're the same. They were both wrong, however.

What do you mean by "wrong"? That it's stupid for a state government- or any professional organization for that matter- to allow employees to use private email for business matters? That may be. But what's really egregious is attempts to use this to excuse the misdeeds of Secretary Clinton.

Seriously? Who here is doing that? How do you read that from what anyone has posted except maybe Mcnown? This isn't about Hillary Clinton. It's about the selective outrage that you so often like to rail against.

Come on, man. Pence using AOL, which was allowed by the State of Indiana, is being spun as equivalent to the Secretary of State operating her own outlaw mail server and then "losing" emails after receiving a subpoena. Are you really denying that?

 By who? The Democrats? Probably... I haven't paid a lot of attention. But we're having a conversation here. No one here has said it's the same or tried to excuse Hillary. However, several of us here have said that it's a bad look to completely dismiss it after her email being the rallying cry of the Right for years. So I don't know who you're arguing with.

Fine. Then there is no issue. An Indiana governor using AOL is completely unrelated to a Secretary of State operating her own server and destroying subpoenaed emails. There is no hypocrisy in criticizing one and ignoring the other.

You been on there for years, just now admitting it is a sign of acknowledging you have a problem is a good first step in getting the help you need.

What do you mean by "wrong"? That it's stupid for a state government- or any professional organization for that matter- to allow employees to use private email for business matters? That may be. But what's really egregious is attempts to use this to excuse the misdeeds of Secretary Clinton.

Technically it wasn't illegal per se to use a private account in Clinton's case. The issues with her revolve around the emails she didn't turn over and what she said wasn't and was classified. Pence has his own issues with turning over emails and usage when it comes to more sensitive matters, but of course they're not as serious as Clinton's. Here's a good comparison:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washin ... -clintons/

We also know more about Clinton's case because of the publicity and investigation. On a couple of questions in Pence's case we have to take him at his word.

So again no one is saying that the two are exactly the same, but as Leash pointed out, it's disingenuous to criticize one but not the other. Why are government folks using private email anyway? Everyone knows you use private email when you don't want things you say about work to be on the record, like when you're bitching about an executive or perhaps getting around some rules or policies. That's not necessarily illegal depending on where you work, but it's definitely shady.

I agree, but there's a gigantic difference between setting up an elaborate private server and simply using an AOL account.

Incidentally, I do a lot of business with attorneys and a surprising amount of them have AOL e-mail accounts. I find it very strange.

Please show us the statute that said HRC couldn't use a private email server. Thanks in advance.
