lot of people love CR. I had to go there for 3-4 days on business once. could not get out of there faster. I was out in the country visiting farming operations. lot of poverty there when you get away from the tourist encampments.

I'm heading there in July, 5 days. Pleasure. Do you know where I can buy weed?

I thought diabetes was higher in countries where rice was the main consumption.

This is the problem that I have. The Dr knew that foot/ankle was fine but he sent us out to waste money on a CYA errand.

This is a great example of something that neither the ACA or AHCA will address, and what I believe to be the root cause to this issue.

This goes back to my point earlier about tort reform being needed.

Tort "reform" as begged for to protect private profits is little more than the mirror image of the cried about "Death Panels".

If a doctor screws you up, would you feel comfortable with the well bribed Mo Brooks, Louie Goehmert or Steve Scalise deciding your future?

No.

Even though her diabetes due to poor lifestyle choices will be responsible for driving up costs?

If I had that mindset I'd be crying and whining about poor people overusing the library, city dwellers being subsidized to use public transportation, suburbanites for overusing roads, old people for living too long and still drawing social security/medicare, farmers bailed out for planting crops no one wants etc etc etc

Well I'm against subsidies across the board (think I've been pretty consistent on that)

The difference with Julie is that her diabetes and impending amputations are the result of poor lifestyle choices that are easily corrected by taking responsibility for your situation and controlling what you put in your body. Also, not taking a bus from Prudential Plaza to Union Station would help her.

Whether you intentionally want to do that or not, once you get to a "healthcare is provided for all by the government" situation, you reach a point where it gets rationed poorly as it is a limited resource. I think the VA hospitals demonstrate this fact perfectly.

I could say the same about any of those.

- Get a better job and pay for your books instead of renting them.
- Live closer to your job
- Pay for your own retirement
- Stop being old/sick
- Plant marketable crops

Someone had posted this earlier, and it is interesting. Cost disease and healthcare. We keep getting less for more.

My goodness, I think that's what I have been saying in thread after thread. Look at how much money we are throwing at these "problems" and then look at out comes.

By all accounts, our health care and educational outcomes are mediocre at best. And our spending on those is off the charts.

Because no one on either side in DC wants real change they want votes.

This morning the NYT had an article complaining that kids who had piled up over $15 in late fees at the library were being cut off from taking out more books, and it was the typical liberal stance: how dare we punish the poor who can't afford books! It's not their fault! Of course the author didn't talk about how other poor kids were essentially cut off from the books that the negligent kids lost or couldn't be bothered to return. Some of these lessons apply to the discussion on healthcare.

Very few people have a problem with legitimate claims. The problem is the vast amount of litigation from trolling lawyers. And even with legit claims, the size of the verdicts is often out of whack with actual damage. It goes well beyond medical malpractice liability.

But in any case, I believe in freedom, so I have no problem with people suing for whatever. It's the sad state of our culture, but we have a lottery and entitlement mentality. It all lines up nicely.

Red State Republican Can’t Wait to ‘Stick it to the Libtards’ and Lose Her Health Insurance
May 4, 2017
James Schlarmann

CEDAR PINES, TENNESSEE — If there is one thing that Trump supporter Josephine Almonds understands, it’s that government control of healthcare is such a dangerous, un-American proposition. That belief, Almonds says makes her very happy that the Trump administration’s replacement for the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare as it’s more popularly referred to, could end up making her unable to get insurance because Josephine says as long as she gets to “stick it to the libtards,” she doesn’t mind not being able to see a doctor or get medicine.

“I have a pre-existing condition,” Almonds told us in an interview, “or at least I will under the AHCA. Apparently being sexually assaulted is an allowable pre-existing condition for insurance carriers to deny coverage over in Trump’s law, and technically since my husband is also my first cousin, that might constitute some kind of sex crime. But the bottom line to me is that if I get to stick to the libtards, I can put up with being sicker than ever.”

When she found out that House Republicans believed they had enough votes to get the American Healthcare Act passed, Josephine says she “jumped for joy.”

“For eight years I’ve had to come up with excuse after excuse as to why I wasn’t applying for the federal aid and getting health insurance through the federal exchange,” Almonds told us, “but now, thank God, I can just rely on my pre-existing condition because you know my red state governor is gonna let carriers opt-out of that. I will gladly die of a preventable disease if it means keeping socialism from taking over America.”

As to the millions of poor, sick, and elderly people who be impacted by the gutting of Medicare, something President Trump promised he would not do during last year’s campaign, Almonds shrugs indifferently.

“Promises are meant to be broken,” Almonds said, “unless you’re a Democrat and then I’m going to harangue and rake you over the coals for it. Like your doctor, keep your doctor much? But to me, if a few poors or olds have to die in order to protect us from the dangers of socialized medicine like over thirty other industrialized countries have, then that’s how it has to be.”

Almonds believes that a faith in Jesus Christ is also guiding Republican lawmakers to do “God’s work” and repeal Obamacare and replace it with something that will boot millions of people off their insurance.

“I believe it was during the Sermon on the Mount,” Almonds said, “when Christ said, ‘Fuck the poor. They’re gonna die one day anyway.’ And if he didn’t, that’s not my fault. I don’t have to be a cuck just because Jesus was one.”

I have always had a problem with the pre-existing condition requirement. Not because I do not care about people or think they should not be cared for. It just does not make any sense the way they did it. I cannot think of another area where a private company is required to "cover" something that is proven to have begun prior to when they became involved in the situation. There are a lot of details to be sure but in its most basic terms that part should have been designed better. A couple ideas would be make the company that was covering the individual when that condition began continue forward to cover it regardless of the standing of the insured with that company i.e. change jobs. The other is they could have created a medicare or similar entry for people that have such a situation to cover that only. Freeing everyone to move beyond that particular condition's costs.

You're getting there...

Firebrand John McCain Demands Immediate Investigation Into Why He Remains Complicit

WASHINGTON—Demanding that Congress intervene immediately in the alarming situation, firebrand Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) demanded an investigation Tuesday into why he’s chosen to remain complicit in all of this, sources reported. “Frankly, we need an independent counsel to look into why I continue to do absolutely nothing in the face of mounting evidence against this reckless, unethical, and potentially compromised White House,” said McCain, passionately arguing that his disturbing pattern of inaction in regards to the Trump administration raises “deeply troubling questions” about his own motivations. “Without a thorough inquiry empowered to go wherever the facts may lead, I’m afraid we’ll never get to the bottom of why my opposition to this madness amounts to little more than the mildest of criticisms on Meet The Press. The fact that I essentially rubber-stamp this president’s agenda despite a reputation for integrity and independence simply doesn’t add up, and the time has come to find out once and for all what’s really going on with me.” At press time, McCain insisted that a special investigation was not necessary, a statement that McCain said only lent credence to his darkest suspicions.
