Katy Perry is the artist behind the song Firework where she sings Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!". But it is Chicago native David Griffin who was saying ow ow ow as he died on the 4th of July when he bent over a fireworks tube that hadn't ignited and it suddenly went off, striking him in the head.

Agreed. You get one day.

My dog hates them as well, but I don't get mad at people for setting them off on the 4th.

But, that said, fireworks are pretty stupid so I'm gonna change my answer and say even on the 4th your a douche. You want to see fireworks, go to your local town's firework show. I'm sure they do it better than you and you don't have to risk losing a hand.

I don't hate them, but I'm not lighting an explosive made by a Chinese kid. They don't have quality control over there.

I won't be able to grip a golf club if I Jason Pierre-Paul myself.

My neighborhood is a huge mess today. One hit a neighbor's house, and he was pissed. Another one hit one of the launcher's roof. No fires luckily.

Well, they are illegal here.

Should get a kick out of this story.

Quote:
Man dies when fireworks he was checking suddenly go off

Katherine Rosenberg-Douglas and Deanese Williams-HarrisContact Reporters
Chicago Tribune
A man was killed on the Southwest Side Tuesday night when he bent over a fireworks tube that hadn't ignited and it suddenly went off, striking him in the head, according to police and fire officials.

David Griffin, 42, was with children in an alley in the 2500 block of West 54th Street in Gage Park when he set up a fireworks display around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.

Griffin lit a tube made to shoot fireworks 40 to 50 feet into the air but it did not go off, fire officials said. He bent over the tube and the fireworks went off and hit him in the face.

He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital and pronounced dead at 9:54 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Griffin lived on the block where the accident happened.

That's like Elmer Fudd looking down the barrel of his shotgun.

Dont have the dog anymore but he hated fireworks every year. Never ever understood the thrill of spending hundreds of dollars to hear a loud noise for 2 second intervals. Leave it to the pros.

What the heck is dog Valium?

Usually human Valium prescribed to a dog. There's also Prozac among other things. Fun to goto the pharmacy for dog medicine, had to get morphine for a dog once.. I got a look when patients name was Tundra.

Shit ... sorry man. I mean, I was sick for a while after that awful card too, but not quite that bad ... unfortunately.

You get two more days: New Year's Eve and when your team wins a championship.

And yes, if your dog is afraid of fireworks he is also afraid of thunderstorms. 4 options: Deal with it, get a basement, get a new dog, or MOVE.

I don't like fireworks and don't see the point in them. The best fireworks show I have ever seen was thoroughly uninteresting. That said, it's part of 4th tradition. You're a total douchebag if you're complaining about fireworks on the 4th.

I've heard dozens of combat vets with ptsd talk about this exact topic. It was always a huge talking point every 4th on Ft Leonardwood and Ft Polk.

Are they doctors? Is this a large enough sample sized for you to know if it's true?

Definitely a large enough sample size for me to believe it. I also follow a lot of military FB pages who have similar discussions. I do know a small minority of vets who do say it affects them. From my experience most other vets don't believe them.

I'd be curious on ToxicMasculinity's take.

I've never understood the appeal of setting off or watching fireworks. To each their own, though.

Oddly enough, my dog, who can be quite a spazz about pretty much everything, has no issues with fireworks.

My daughter did flip out this weekend when my parents' neighbors were setting them off... like legit hyperventilating.

Watching? Because women and kids like it. Setting them off? You get a little rush from doing it.

Granted I lost a bit of hearing from jumping out of loud ass C130s and gunfire, but there has never been a point for me when a firework has reminded me of combat.

Unless Rogers Park started smelling like Afghanistan, I will never be bothered by fireworks. Those road signs are often put up by vets looking for pity, some who havent even deployed.

I can't answer for anyone else but I know it is Fourth of July and am not surprised by any loud booms. I am very easily startled though at sudden stuff. Not to some point of panic. I am not even sure its military related.

I love fireworks as long as someone else is paying for them. I bought a few pack of sparklers when my daughters were younger and that is the extent of any fireworks I have bought. I see no reason to spend money to light things on fire.
