That's not playing. It's spectating.

I have no doubt that is true. Boys and girls do play differently. That doesn't mean you don't encourage them to use creative toys like legos even if they'd rather play with a truck or a doll.

Kids are creative with their dolls and trucks. You sound like you work for Lego. I probably shouldn't be arguing about this with a guy named "Brick."

The point is that kids won't make diverse choices and it is the parents job to make sure they have a wide range of experiences. Are you seriously on the other side of the argument that it is a good thing to encourage your kids to play with legos?

No one is saying don't let them play with dolls and/or trucks. They are saying you should encourage them to also play with legos.

It's like saying that you wouldn't encourage your kids to ride a bike.

I think it's funny you throw this nugget out like it is common knowledge.

Of course....everyone has read that gorilla study.

I think it's funny that the "most intelligent" species has become so divorced from science that such a studies are even necessary. We prefer to pretend that "gender is a social constuct."

I would guess that "science" says that you should encourage your daughters to play with legos.

Not your sons?

I have no beef with Legos. I just don't see an imperative to force a child of either sex to play with toys in which he/she shows no interest.

I can see you trying to frame that as "JORR thinks kids should be allowed to do whatever they want- play Fortnite all day long and eat Snickers bars for dinner."

The discussion is that there is a large disparity in parents based on gender on "encouraging them to play with legos". Your last sentence is ironic given you are the one that keeps on wanting to frame the discussion from something it isn't.

All kids, regardless of gender, should be encouraged to play with legos. It's one of the best toys for kids for obvious reasons.

"Traditional" gender toys and colors isn't even 100 years old. No child should be allowed to play with Legos or any kind of blocks that aren't large. Otherwise, they just end up in my shoes.
