They probably don't have metal detectors at the school he attends. In order to search his bag they would have had to have probable cause. Those words alone would not lead to a search. They should have referred him for therapy regarding the voices stuff however.

I believe that is what they did. He was instructed to meet with a therapist in the next 2 days and was then returned to class.

If all of that is true, the teacher(s) did their job. It sounds like the district and school administrators may have some problems.

The kid was clearly begging for help.

Its going to be tough for either of those things to stick. If that is all that it was then the school officials aren't going to be fired. I thought that he issued threats and they knew about it and did nothing. They along with the parents made a judgment call. In retrospect it was the wrong call but they couldn't discipline him for that.

Buying a kid a gun doesn't sound like something that would be strange or uncommon in a small or rural town. The parents appear to be shitty parents, but charging them with a crime based on what I've seen is bullshit.

No handguns, but where I grew up it is was very common to get a shotgun at a young age for hunting. I had a shotgun that I used at 10.

The school did its job. Therapy was the only thing that they could have suggested with what they had on him. If something else comes out then yeah they should have suspended him but if that's all it was then they did what they were supposed to do.

You might give a shotgun or a hunting rifle (like a bolt action, not a semi auto AR type weapon which in my opinion has little hunting value) but you do not give a child a handgun. You just dont. I get hunting with grandpa or pops, but a child who is too young to drive has no business with a handgun.

Handguns are meant for self defense, or put another way, to be used against humans.

These parents are deranged for giving a kid a gun like that. And encouraging him to hide his search history like that is just beyond the pale. These parents if you can call them that belong in jail for their contributions to this disaster of a child and tragedy of a situation.

Mom took him shooting a few days before. I hear you, but I don't think that the type of gun purchased should make the parents criminally liable. If they had purchased a rifle, and the kid stood outside of the school and killed people, I don't think that changes much.

The bigger problem was the kid was begging for help and never got it. Innocent people ultimately paid with their lives because of it.

To me, there is just a difference between a handgun and a shotgun/rifle. Maybe it was that I grew up with one but was under strict instructions I couldn't shoot the other one and it is ingrained in me.

If they bought him a rifle, it's not in his backpack hidden.

No. Laws that I occasionally wish existed are completely different from laws that actually do exist.

AR type rifles are probably the number one gun used for hog and coyote hunting these days. They play well with thermal sights for night hunting among other things. Illinois you would never get a handgun for a kid. The age is 21 for those anyways I think. Many country kids get a shotgun or a savage rifle or whatever when they are pretty young. It was more the case when kids would go rabbit and upland hunting but that’s not too common anymore. Pistols do seem to occupy a different interest than long guns out here. Lot of folks have one and not the other. Long guns are ubiquitous… handguns a little rarer.

The kid was clearly begging for help.

I vividly remember asking for help many times in grade school and was always told 'eh youre fine you have no idea how bad others have it'. And i turned out fine

Corey Lesser is charged as an adult with attempted murder for the Wednesday shooting, among other felony counts, authorities said Saturday.

Four similar carjackings of DoorDash drivers were reported on Nov. 27 and 28, with Lesser listed as the customer in two of the delivery orders, prosecutors said. In Wednesday’s encounter, the name was different, but the IP address allegedly matched that of the orders under Lesser’s name.

Robbing DoorDash drivers seems like an extremely high risk/low reward proposition.

It also seems that if you use your own name and/or phone to order DoorDash then carjack the driver when they show up with the food, you aren't going to stay on the streets for very long. Even the dumbest of Elmhurstian type of an officer would be able to crack that case.

I should clarify. The risk of being charged with armed robbery vs. getting $32 and an expired gas card.

But then I realized if you do that in Crook County, ol Kim Foxx is just gonna turn ya loose anyways.

Usually yes but in this case it appears common sense prevailed;
