I agree. That being said these are athletes and not politicians. Searching their accounts for crap they posted as a child is ridiculous.

Not sure about absolving these guys for responsibility based on "they were just kids". If you're a 17-18 year arm with a 92+ MPH fastball, you've likely been scouted for a couple years already and are keenly aware that you're within a year or two of cashing a MiLB paycheck + draft bonus money. Not like they woke up as a 22 year old surprised to be pitching for a pro franchise. In the case of a lefty like Hader, chances of at least getting a September call-up on a major league roster is virtually guaranteed (barring injury/losing their fastball/etc). I'd guess left-handed pitchers have the highest percentage of any position of making it to "the show", at least for a cup of coffee.

tl;dr if you have a left-handed son, put a baseball in their hand in the crib--and monitor their social media when they get older.

Come on! Expecting a kid not to do or say dumb shit is unreasonable even for those who may likely become millionaires. If all of us had to answer questions about things we did or said when we were in high school MANY of us would have problems.

That bit of advice would've served a 14-year-old Kyler Murray very, very well.

Sure, a lot has transpired since Murray was a young high schooler back in 2012. He emerged as a two-sport star, got selected in the first round of the MLB draft by the Oakland Athletics, took over for 2017 Heisman winner Baker Mayfield at the University of Oklahoma, ​and ended up winning the famous trophy himself tonight. But with that comes increased scrutiny, and some of his unfortunate throwback tweets is worth contextualizing and reckoning with.

Murray would be smart to get out ahead of this tasteless series of episodes from six years ago and speak out as soon as possible about how wrong he knows this all was. What's done is done. At least clear the air going forward, big man.
