https://variety.com/2022/film/news/bros-box-office-disappointing-billy-eichner-reacts-1235390904/

Quote:
“That’s just the world we live in, unfortunately,” Eichner continued. “Even with glowing reviews, great Rotten Tomatoes scores, an A CinemaScore, etc., straight people, especially in certain parts of the country, just didn’t show up for Bros. And that’s disappointing but it is what it is.”

Eichner concluded his thoughts by encouraging “everyone who isn’t a homophobic weirdo” to see “Bros,” writing that it remains “special and uniquely powerful to see this particular story on a big screen.”

My guess is he was referring to Bears fans who chose to watch them instead of going to see this movie in theaters.

He said, "people howled with laughter from start to finish"

In my life, only one movie I howled from start to finish. That, of course, was Duck Soup.

I have ZERO interest in homosexual rom-coms. If that makes me a bigot, I'll wear it proudly.

I mean I'll probably watch it if it's on one of the streaming apps I already have but it seems like Tom Cruise is the only guy in Hollywood who still understands how to entertain the masses. What next? An action movie starring a trans actor.

Between needing to go to WNBA games, women's soccer league games and now Gay rom-com's, I'm feeling a bit overscheduled. No time for the straight life.

I don't need the homosexual qualifier...I have ZERO interest in the existence of rom-coms.

It seems like a weird marketing ploy with movies these days that if you don't go to a movie...fuck you. And it seems to be popping up a lot in the Judd Apatow world.

I watched the Interview with the Vampire tv show so I was balls deep in it this weekend. I didn't even have time to go see Smile.

and, by the way, that motherfucker better have some hard (hey, hey) data proving that both homosexuals did show and that straight people didn't or that is an incredibly bigoted rant.

I saw Clerks 3 a few weeks ago and I was very entertained but then a deep sadness rushed over me when I realized this is the exception these days.

Are you able to watch a movie when you don't identify with the characters?

Shouldn't he be blaming straight women? It's not like we should expect men to want to watch any romantic comedy. The women let him down like the men let down those Ghostbusters that were removed from the Ghostbusters universe.

It's not really a matter of identifying with the characters. But I like to care about the fictional characters I'm watching or reading about.

I don't have a rooting interest in seeing Tom find love with Harry. Good for them I guess. I just don't need to pay $12 to watch it.

That isn't to say there haven't been homsosexual characters written that I care about. I'm just fairly certain this ain't it and I have plenty of other entertainment options so I don't feel the need to devote the time and money required to find out.

Just from the trailer they insulted their audience once and was over the line inappropriate once and it doesn't have the big name draw that a romcom needs. It needed to do the opposite of what it did. If inclusivity is important be inclusive don't insult your audience. The Birdcage was a good movie because of the cast and message. In and Out had its moments too but ultimately fell flat. It wasn't the content it was the delivery and I suspect that is the case here.

It clearly sounds like not being able to relate to the characters is the primary issue. You don't have a problem with the genre of the movie or the centuries old storyline. I know you don't have a problem burning $20.

I like In and Out and I'll usually watch it if it's on and I'm just sitting around. But I wouldn't be interested in a sequel that focuses strictly on the romance between Selleck and Kline. I don't have a phobia. I'm not afraid of homosexuals. I'm just not interested in them as a general rule. Why does anyone want to force me to be interested in shit I don't care about? Mind your own business. Or make a different movie. Whatever. Don't try to blackmail people into liking shit they don't like.

The genre is not my favorite. But if I'm going to watch it, I prefer that it be about a hot chick and a likable dude.
