Douchebanks who gotta fly by you on the right on city streets. Then they gotta squeeze up in the right hand turn lane and floor their little shitbox engines to get in front of the line of cars at the light.

Assholes. I hope they all die in fiery crashes.

Why are you wishing death on me? I don't speed but this is something I do all the time. It saves me a lot of time.

So we all have to get there a second slower so you can get there a second faster. Nice.

I never let those people in and often stare at them.

You don't usually have a choice unless you want to cause an accident. Even if you didn't I would just go right behind you. There are more assholes like you on the express way that won't allow you to merge on.

That is my first inclination, but I eventually relent since it is not worth getting into it with someone with this frame of mind.

It's just like passing everywhere else. It makes no sense to wait 5 mins to get to a stop sign when you can do it in 30 seconds. I suspect you all are those people who wait 5 hours to get on 290 when you're heading North on the Ryan when you can get in the right lane and it'll take you a few mins.

If there are two lanes, use them.

After 30 years of driving in the city, nothing surprises me (except when people drive safely and efficiently). The people not letting the assholes in are just as bad and probably cause more delays than the assholes blasting in and merging at the last second.

Just let them in, your man-hood will endure the slight...

the side of the road where people park is not a lane. the bus stop is not a lane. the right hand turn lane is not a go straight lane.

And yes I hate those bastards that cut in line getting on the Ike. The right lane is for people going east to downtown.

That has got to be the most absurd interchange in the country. The Dan Ryan interchange to the Ike is ONE FREAKING LANE! Sometimes I take Roosevelt and work my way back up, but that is a nightmare too. No wonder nobody goes to Sox games.

I don't generally care on the streets because you're likely slamming on your gas for no reason. It does piss me off when I'm trying to merge onto the expressway. There is a greater chance for an accident.

It depends what we are talking about here. You actually are supposed to fill all of the lanes up until it is closed on the highway. That's why they are open up until then.

You shouldn't ever pass in a right turn lane or on the shoulder unless you are turning.

I'm conflicted about the parking lanes. If they are open because of time restrictions aren't they for driving?

That is a different scenario. The guys that get me are the ones that weave in and out avoiding the random parked cars.

Illinois rules of the road are kind of unclear IMO:

Merging Lanes
This sign tells you that two lanes of traffic going the same direction
will soon merge into one lane. Be ready to either change
lanes or allow other traffic to merge into your lane. Merge signs
appear on expressways just before expressway ramps. The driver
on the expressway slows down to let the driver on the ramp
merge.

BUT

A driver must yield the right-of-way to other drivers or pedestrians:
To through traffic when approaching a MERGE sign. You must increase or decrease
your speed to avoid a crash.

You posted this after morning rush hour. And mentioned that you head downtown I think.

Your issue is with people illegally parking in traffic lanes during restricted hours.

No this was on Sunday afternoon that it really irritated me.

I take the Metra downtown. I would NEVER EVER drive downtown. Assholes galore! Better to WALK to the Metra station, get on the train, and put on the noise cancelling headphones.

I agree. When there is a lane closure on the expressway, the most efficient way is to use both lanes up until the closure and then left goes and right goes, etc. Unfortunately, most people can't grasp that and begin moving over ten miles before the closure. And then there are the assholes that straddle both lanes slowing things down even more.

Nas doesn't think his destination is more important than yours, he thinks he is more important than you!

Say it aint so Joe. If you see a sign that says left lane closed in 1 mile you need to get over. The idiots that speed along and cut over at the last minute are the ones that cause the issues.

If you are driving extremely passively, you cannot get upset when others are just trying to get to their destination in an efficient manner.

What you call passive I call being courteous to others.

What you call passive I call being courteous to others.

The two are not synonymous.

If you arrive at a four way stop at the same time as another car, there is a specific procedure to follow.

Two jackasses waving each other through is courteous to no one. Sudden braking or stopping to let someone into a lane is not courteous to those around you.

There are many examples of people thinking they're 'doing a solid' on the roadways that causes a lot of trouble / traffic.

If you drove unlike a retiree on his way to Sunday bingo, I'm sure this topic you brought up as being so terrible wouldn't have been an issue. Acceleration laws are loose / non-existent; uou're allowed to reach 20 mph in less than 20 seconds.
