if there's one thing that bears and packers fans can always agree on it's FUCK THE VIKINGS! i can tell you that with ~16 live NFL/bears games under my belt over the last 5+ years that far and away the worst fans to deal with are the fans of the minnesota vikings. maybe i'm just consistently unlucky, but i always seem to be surrounded by some vikings fans who are total mug Caller Bobs (to borrow a term from the british) who stand up and stretch out their arms with every first down and oscillate around 360 degrees to get noticed by as many bears fans as possible to go "HEY LOOK I'M A VIKINGS FAN AND WE JUST GOT A FIRST DOWN!!!!" (that's why i focused on them near the end of this video)

the first time i saw the vikings in champaign back in sept 2002 i remember walking out of memorial stadium and some bitter guy in a MOSS/84 jersey str8up got multiple drinks thrown at him while walking out of the park because he was busy antagonizing as many bears fans as possible i have never seen anyone else get a drink thrown at them @ or around a NFL game since.... well, with a caveat:

so today i used the mass-exodus of people after last sunday's debacle @ GB to get a seat in section 441 row 1 for under face value, so i was there @ soldier field. to my left were some wonderful mexican people from mexico who came up just to see a bears game, and they were joyous and generous and awesome so i got them a nice picture and etc. to my right were a couple of eastern european dudes wearing all black with no team/logos or anything. they didnt seem too interested in the game, only occasionally talking softly in a foreign language to each other when giving cheering people WTF?!?!?! glares like they decided to come to a NFL game and holy fuck why are all these people yelling? whats wrong with them?

and behind me i had a row of vikings fans, lighlighted by the ~250lb chick with a giant purple tophat-height-hat with vikings horns coming out and the whole 9 yards. painted face and purple eyelashes stood out. there was some hipster-looking-asshole in a black coat with another plump chick to his left and i think 2 more people filled out the row. i didnt pay much attention to them cuz i was into the game even tho it wasnt the best swarth of fans around where you could took football, in fact the 350lb eastern european dude to my right (who had to enjoy the fact that row 1 seats have cupholders built into the armrests so LESS ROOM FOR HIM to spill over into ~15% of my seat's space) and his buddy seemed to be a bit miffed that these dumbass americans were cheering on the team in this inferior game.

and then right as the HT whistle blew out of nowhere i feel an odd sensation hit my back as i realize it's like 1/2 to 2/3 of a beer and then i immediately hear OH WHOOPS!!! OH DAMN LOOK AT ME I'M BUTTERFINGERS TODAY I JUST SPILLED MY BEER ALL OVER SOME OF THE BEST FANS IN FOOTBALL!!!! DAD-GUMMIT I HOPE THEY DON'T GET MAD AT ME BUT IT WAS A TOTAL ACCIDENT.

fortunately i always carry like 20 napkins on me so i clean it up..... but then as i'm doing it i notice this chachbag is fucking staring me down beyond the point of eye contact into one of those de-facto staring contests where it's like YEAH YOU'RE GONNA LOOK AWAY BITCH... THIS IS MY DOMAIN! WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT?!?!!? so after i go and get lunch @ HT i come back and low and behold dude is mean mugging me from the second i come within his sight. and it's flagrant because he followed me from the stairs to my seat AND KEPT ON LOOKING at which point i had to tell him to let it go because the bait wasn't gonna work and oh bt the way * takes picture * it was never going to work so i hope he can let it go and be a legend amongst his friends for pouring a beer on a bears fan.

Image
(note the shit eating grin on the chick's face because clearly they were reveling in the fact that LOL U MAD BEARS FAN HAHAHAHHAH!!!! and at this point i had just told him to let it go and give it up so yeah, they must have been really proud of themselves at being able to get someone upset by randomly dumping a beer on his back for no reason! WE'RE DEALING WITH BRILLIANCE HERE!)

so after the staredowns kept on happening right b4 the 2H kicked off i had to have a word with security, and i told them not to make it obvious they were going for him cuz this guy fed 0ff of it and it'd be worse for me if i was obvious i tattled on him.... so 5-10mins later redjackets come up, start vociferously talking about section 442 (tho flashing hand # signs to signifiy 441 row 2 seat 3 where he was at) and yeah, he promptly shut the fuck up and didnt bother me anymore (i feared catching the business end of cheese fries or something to stain my jersey in the 2H. i havent checked yet but will in a minute)

and yeah.... seriously.... this is new frontier for me. randomly getting beers dumped on me by opposing fans who wanna rile me up and get me kicked out the stadium? only one NFL fandom that i've encoutnered would even think of doung that, let alone doing that.... and that's your minnesota football vikings.

fuck all y'all cuntrags and i hope you enjoyed losing to the suckass bears today.

Regardless of fandom that guy looks like a giant douche.

Nice way to handle the situation, though.

A better end to the story would have had you kicking the shit out of him after the game.

You get food somewhere, they give you napkins, you stuff them in your winter jacket, and before you know it it's January and you have a shit ton of napkins.

Yes, because Bears fans have never been complete douches. This happens in every stadium.

This shit is one of the reasons why I dislike going to football games.

I don't need another venue to get angry.

Yeah, it's the nature of football and no single fan base is worse than another. People who act like that should be beaten to a pulp. Fucking idiots.

in november of 2011 i saw the chargers play the bears i had stopped off somewhere and gotten lunch, and one of my two klepto reflexes is grabbing a bunch of napkins from places i get food at (straws is the other, with an honorable mention going out to sugar packets at dunkin donuts) --- i got to my seat early, and a 20something couple waddled up like 5-10mins b4 kickoff and they were fucking TANKED. you could smell the alcohol coming off of their breaths from a row in front of them, so yeah, this was clearly their one bears game for the season or decade or lifetime and they decided to go tailgating and get hammered and have THE FULL BEARS EXPERIENCE,

when bears fans aren't trestmanned into sheer and utter antipathy towards their team, there's a sense of exuberance that builds up from the intros/anthem/flyover all the way to kickoff where people are like yeeeeaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! to coincide with robbie gould's typical wobbly kickoffs (save the 1 or 2 seasons he was prolly on PEDs and was consistently booting them out of the endzone) so right as that initial kickoff release happened ol girl had stood up to YEAHHHH and she lost it right there on the spot and horked all over my seat and my neighbor's seat. thankfully had ~10 napkins on me so they came in handy as i was able to wipe up all the puke and then stick it in the bag i had left over from buying a t-shirt, so i was able to go HERE YA GO MA'AM and hand her a plastic bag chock full of her puke and the napkins that fought it.

ever since that day i make sure to have ~15-20 napkins in my back pockets just incase something happens. sure enough since that fateful horking i've had a legit-drunk bears fan legit-accidentally spill a beer forwards all over me and my seat (when i turned around to see what happened dude was like DONT WORRY BRO YOU'VE GOT A WAL-MART JERSEY SO IT DOESNT MATTER which i found to be a bit ironic because he had some grey jersey with black letters and #s) SOOOOOO hey those napkins sure came in handy then....

.....hey wait a minute? is nas implying or insinuating that i'm using all these napkins to smuggle in drugs or something? yeah dude you know i totally wanna smuggle weed up in my ass so then i can go smoke it with all of the cigarette smokers..... oh wait, you know, actually it's for my cocaine/powder so i can go into the 100% jam-packed bathroom with 1-2 security/attendants people in there on each side and toot me a WHOOOOOO BOY and then go outside and not smoke a cigarette. thats the way to do it!

anyways i'll hush up b4 i lose my nas pass. those things go for like $75k/year on ebay! ;)

I was just curious why you walked around with a lot of napkins. Some type of drugs or pills did come to mind. Some people sweat a lot too.

so since i was spot on with your first implication do you maintain a healthy skepticism that the beer dumping wasn't unprovoked and instead was the action of an exasperated guy who had to put up with my drugged up ass for the first half and had to do SOMETHING to try and get me to act right for the second half?

ain't no such thing as halfway shook, you know?

i'll still maintain that you and a good # of people from the CSFMB have met me IRL and i'm far from the conversationalist you'd expect based on my CSFMB posts. my momma raised a good boy.... i just type really fast and tend to make up for an underactive social life on here.

as an addendum i want to say that with 16 games since 2002 and 14 since 2009, i like to think i've got a pretty good grip on bears games and what the average experience is like.

that said, i can tell you that without a doubt in my mind vikings fans are the worst. like i said in the OP i've never seen someone get a drink thrown at them from talking shit, and yet 84/MOSS got 2+ thron at him leaving memorial stadium in champaign cuz the bears had come from behind to beat them 23-20 or 24-23 or something and the guy had to let all teh bears fans know what horrible pieces of shit we and the team were and etc.

and then the two other times i've seen them i've never seen a group of traveling fans go out of their way to mug for attention so damn much. in that video of the cutler to aromashodu touchdown to beat them on MNF in late dec 09 the reason i went to that lot of fans after my fan-mode kicked in and i stopped following the ball on the play was that because ALL GAME LONG they were constantly mugging and pointing to the name on the back of the shirt and trying to recreate the vikings horn sound and rah rah rah blah blah blah

i've also seen the packers 3 times and by and large their traveling fans tend to know where they are and who they're sitting around and as such they don't go around trying to elicit responses from bears fans. even the youbger college-aged fans seem to know to keep it to themselves.... but it's something about the vikings and their fans that compels them to, say, randomly dump a beer on a bears' fans back and then literally be like "SO WHAT? WHATCHA GONNA DO?" and i wish i could say i was surprised, but i''ve been saying for years saying that these guys are easily the worst lot of the bunch i've encountered.... and welp, today happens and c'est la fucking vie, no?

oh and btw the fatalism in the thread ("this kind of stuff is what happens @ NFL games") is way off. like i said with the ~15 games over the years i've only seen once instance of drink throwing, and it was leaving memorial stadium in champaign. i've never seen a proper fight or anything, tho i have seen a few drunks get seated/carried of by the redjackets. hell i've been fortunate enough to never sit around those superdrunks (or at least the vociferous ones cuz obviously i've caught a puker b4) so i'd say that it doesn't happen nearly as much as you'd think. saying that if you go to a NFL game you're going to for sure catch the business end of a beer thanks to a drunken asshole is akin to saying that everytime you go to a ghetto you're going to get robbed because this is what happens in the ghetto.

there's a thing called basic human decency.... and most people have it. most people at NFL games had to pay $100+ per ticket to show up there, let alone all the costs of parking/transit/beer/food/etc so if you wanna act the fool you're going to pay a lot of $$$ to do it. and in my experience while the redjackets aren't quite the legendary hounds of justice that the CPD was back @ the chicago stadium in the 80s (my hawks-season-ticket-having-thru-the-80s-uncle tells me that if you fucked around @ the stadium and the cops had to yank you out of your seat it was known that they'd take you down to their holding room and give you a beatdown for acting the fool @ THEIR house) but those redjackets will get the job done. they have a sign on the east side of the stadium that tells you to text BEARS ROW/SEAT to ##### if you have a problem, and i suspect people do that since it's a subtle way of getting assistance and then when the redjackets do show up, 1-2 of them will scope it out and if they determine there's an issue they'll be back 10 deep in a few minutes with the red seat so they can strap you to it and carry you the fuck out of there.

they're not fucking around at soldier field, and i assume the same thing happens @ all of the other stadiums. the nfl is a HUGE BU$INE$$ and they're not gonna let some stupid drunk/s fuck up their gravy train and create the kind of mentality that people are tossing about in this thread. you have no reason to fear for your well being at a NFL game.... that is unless the vikings are in town and you get unlucky in being around some of their extra-cunty fans who HAVE TO LET YOU KNOW THAT THEY'RE VIKINGS FANS AND THEY'RE HERE LIKE QUEERS!

What do you suppose it is about Vikings fandom that makes otherwise polite Minnesotans act foolish? I've never heard of anyone having trouble with Minnesota fans in baseball or hockey -- quite the opposite, if anything. I mean, people from the Cities are capable of being shitty, but they're waaaay more passive-aggressive about it than anyone with the possible exception of the South. Are Vikings games their one chance to act out?

Also worth considering is that there are a ton of Packers fans up north, for obvious reasons, so you get a lot of people who like the Packers but also the Twins and Wild. The misbehavior of Packers fans is akin to the misbehavior of kindergarteners: they'll pull their pants down and call you a poopyhead, but they're not really capable of malice. Could it be that with NFL fandom split, Vikings fans are the Die Sox White Fans of the north?

It's because the Vikings have literally never mattered. The Bears and Packers have a lot of historic success and both have Super Bowl victories. The Vikings have Randy Moss and Adrian Peterson to point to.

Couldn't disagree more. I have attended at least 10 vikings games (including one in Minnesota and one in Green Bay) and every single Vikings fan I have encountered, including those yesterday in South Lot and in the seats around us, were all fine.

And while accidental beer dumps in the stands are common, I have trouble imagining an intentional stealth dump of a $10 beer -- one where the dumper doesn't take credit. The intentional dumps I have seen were all preceded by some sort of conflict.

I will never buy that one fan base is worse than any other. There are tons of idiots in every city for every sport. Sports carry with them an element that encourages idiocy.

No. I was just curious about the napkins. I don't doubt that Vikings fans occasionally act and smell like Packers fans.

You just provided support for those who believe that the best fan experience and the better fans stay home and watch the game on TV. The only beer being spilt is that by you tripping over the TV tray, and the only poor sports fans are your wife exasperated that you'll be present in the same place for the next 3 hours or your kids for not paying attention to them for the same period (or if you're single it will be phone calls from football ignorant family members because after all friends let friends watch sports on TV uninterrupted).

When I'm at home games I'm the "high-five guy" who knows when to cheer and when to shut up. On the road I'm the guy that puts catch phrases into the ears/minds/hearts of the opposing fans (I don't yell but my voice carries). I drink before the game because I don't think anyone jostling me carrying overpriced suds is by accident (also my quality of beverage is far superior). The "mean-mugging" thing is something I rarely experience as I have size, indifference, and my ninja stare working for me.

My best soldier field fan experience was two women making out sitting behind me, and letting me take a picture that wound up being upskirt as well (I need to find that from my vault to post).

*this was a Sini homage post (after one of the few posts of his I couldn't completely read).

I remember seeing this idiot on TV when Ohio State was at Northwestern last season. I'm certain he doesn't have a neck.

As someone with good experience with fan bases visiting other schools, Wisconsin fans are BY FAR the worst.

Regardless of fandom, anybody that is named after a faucet or other bathroom fixture is bound to be a douche.

You've never been to a Duke basketball game.

Biggest douche fan base I have ever encountered is Ohio State fans at a Northwestern football game.
As someone with good experience with fan bases visiting other schools, Wisconsin fans are BY FAR the worst.

Don't have have your teams suck all of the time and you won't have to put up with it. And have your fanbase buy their own tickets.

 That's why I know which teams are worse. They all show up there.

Wisconsin fans were another level. Ohio State fans were awesome by comparison.

This.

As I have written before, OSU fans come to the big city wearing their gear around town like they are going to own the place. They seem confused when they are met with a collective "is there a game this weekend?"

I've been to 39 Bear road games and probably around 75 home games and Viking fans are near the top of the list for being the worst fans.
The top 3 worst that I've encountered were Cleveland, Buffalo and Minnesota.
I've been to Oakland twice and only had a couple of small incidents.
The incidents at Bear games in Minnesota were far worse than anything I dealt with in Oakland.

Leash is right. I'm sure there are similar conversations in other cities which describe Chicago as the worst fan base or whatever, etc. It's impossible to quantify, but it sort of makes for chauvinistic conversation among insiders.
