How dare they criticize the police when they never criticize China?

Well, for one, police aren't a source of income.

They do it because they know they can talk all the shit they want about police and police will still protect them. There's nothing for them to worry about. The police took an oath to protect and serve and they cant break it just because the person who needs them wears a retarded "I Can't Breathe" shirt. Notice how "Defund the Police" doesn't make the approved message list, that's probably because the NBA is very aware what would happen if local PD's stopped providing free security for all their events.

China on the other hand will cut you off at a moment's notice. They dont give a shit, you gotta tow the party line and you're out. For the NBA that's no more money, for a Chinese citizen that's disappearing never to to be heard from again.

The larger part of this also is that the players (and league) don't really risk anything in espousing wokeisms. There is no risk that they will lose their jobs, no risk that they will lose endorsements, no risk that they will become a social pariah for speaking their mind. There is only gain to be gotten from saying "Fuck Trump" and the like, which only highlights how shallow their slactivism is because when there are dollars to be lost by espousing wokeisms about China, they shut up and dribble in the exhibitions they put on for the regime that is ethnically cleansing people.

I think that it took guts for that Houston GM to speak up for the oppressed people of Hong Kong faced with Chinese tyranny. The guy shouldn't be censured for his statement. Hell, we had many NBA players speak terrible things about the POTUS and were never chastised for it. What is the difference? If you are going to allow the one, you should accept the other. When the NBA allows China to dictate the suppression of free speech the NBA is violating the policy of this country supporting the existence of free speech as a guarantee of its citizens. It is as simple as that.

Oh it didn't take guts. Daryl Morey thought his stupid virtue signalling about China would be tacitly well-received by people in America who ostensibly stand for the same types of things the people of Hong Kong stand for. He definitely doesn't give a shit. He's just some MIT numbers guy who ruins sports for a living with his gay analytics. Dont ascribe virtue to his empty hollow tweets.

Surprise to literally everyone is apparently very controversial to criticize the Chinese government. I wouldn't have thought that at all, either. If he knew the backlash it would incur he never would've said it. So no, it was not brave at all.

I'd say it was considering he knew that the NBA was kissing China's ass and that his statement would piss China off. I admire anyone who stands up against oppression like experienced in Hong Kong. BTW, why are so adamant that he didn't give a shit about what he said and talk about his "gay analytics? What do analytics have to do with what he said?

When Yao Ming played for the Rockets Daryl Morey had an opportunity to diss the Chinese Govt and never said a damn word. He had the same opportunity to speak out as the players do currently and made the same sort of BUSINESS decision that guys like Lebron James are making now. He knew if he'd said something then his ass would have fired and thus he said nothing.

During the entirety of Yao Ming's playing career he was the property of the Chinese Govt and Morey kissed their ass just like everyone else. When there were actual repercussions he said nothing.

Maybe because China wasn't going into Hong Kong and hauling out "criminals" at that time.

Nah that wasn't it. China didn't just become Repressive when it came to Hong Kong. They have run the same type of Government for the past 70 years. They torture and kill dissidents. Yao Ming was their property. Morey could have spoken out about all of that and kept his mouth shut. He would not have dared to speak out against China if Yao was still a member of the Rockets.

While we were distracted with bombing the shit out of Afghans and Iraqis the Chinese kinda snuck up on us. Half of it was wittingly because the American consumer maw has an unending thirst for cheap shit but the other half was a very legitimate feint by the PRC. They sold the world on the lie that they envisioned a peaceful rise where an ascendant China would elevate every country around the world.

It's really not until the last two years that the lie has been totally exposed. Have they always been amoral? Yes. But there was always this tacit understanding that as the world opened up to China so too would China open up to the world.

Its just now their zero-sum game philosophy and clear aspirations to dominate rather that cooperate have become so obvious. Its why you really cannot get after Clinton or Bush for not strangling this monster in the womb, they couldn't have really known.

I'm demonstrating that he made the exact same decision when the circumstances were similar.

No, you dug around and found a nugget. Do you have any idea what Morey's opinion of Yao was? I'm just guessing but I think he wasn't a fit for what he wanted to do. Maybe he couldn't get rid of him even if he wanted to due to business considerations. Maybe he holds a resentment and it came out last year.

His opinion of Yao is irrelevant. He had a chance to voice his opinion about the Chinese Govt then and said nothing because he knew that it would have gotten him fired.

It was only when he had no actual skin in the game that he decided to speak out. His actions aren't commendable.

Didn't LeBron specifically call out Morey's statements on Hong Kong as "uninformed"?

Was Morey even with the Rockets when they drafted Yao? NBA wasn't anywhere near as involved in China at the time. Ming was a big reason the NBA took off in China and the resulting Chiner money train opened up. Yao at the time was something akin to the Hernández brothers leaving Cuba for the MLB or the Red Wings signing ex-Soviet players or the Bulls breaking the UK wall by signing Luol Deng and Ben Gordon

Lebron said nothing about China. Just as Morey did when Yao was on the team. He never said anything when he actually had something to lose. If he would have bashed China he would have been fired and he knew that.

He was GM when Yao was on the roster. He didn't draft him but he was a GM when Yao played. He could have made his views known then and didn't. He also could have passed on the gig knowing that Yao was the property of the Chinese Govt and didn't.

He only bashed the Chinese Govt when he had nothing to lose.

If he would have made similar statements when Yao played he would been whacked. So he said nothing. We are criticizing the Lebrons of the world because they are unwilling to lose money when Morey did exactly the sa.e thing.

LeBron specifically called Morey's comments on Hong Kong "misinformed". That is tacit support of China, as you well know.

This deflection is award winning caliber. Even the lickiest of NBA bootlickers haven't thought of it. You have absolutely managed to poke a hole in an airtight case.

Can you work on the case that we didn't actually go to the moon?

LeBron did say something about Morey's China comment. He could have stayed out of it.

That isn't why people here are upset though. They are mad with the "woke" NBA for failing to denounce the Chinese Government. When Morey had actual skin in the game he didn't denounce them either.

People here are bashing people that didn't say anything because they didn't say anything.

No he said nothing. Just like Lebron said nothing.

LeBron called out Morey for it.

Ok so why are bashing others for remaining "silent" on the issue then?

"LeBron didn't say anything about China!"

Yes he did.

"Nobody is mad at LeBron for saying what he said about China!"

Gotta love it. And yes, LTG, people are/were mad at LeBron for the tacit support he gave the Chinese government by calling Morey's comments "misinformed" and "uneducated", which implies that more information and education about the issue about which Morey was speaking would have lead to him not making those comments.
