where is the most obvious place to find waste, fraud and abuse in the highest dollar amount?

The $1,000 hammer/toilet seat has been a running joke since I was a child.

and he only has 150 or so days in this position

this leads me to question whether the priority really is finding waste, fraud and abuse

Why does it have to be waste in the highest amount? It can be all waste big and small can’t it? I imagine cutting federal jobs in some percentage adds up to a lot.

A lot of those jobs are not waste, though.

Many are very expensive. Pay, benefits, pensions etc etc. There are many.

Maybe everyone should make minimum wage.

Interesting philosophy. We'll call it the Anti Daniel Burnham Plan "make no big plans"

His goal is to cut 1 billion dollars and he has 180 days to do it. I think I'd start at the top and work my way down.

Cutting the jobs is peanuts. It's the programs that garner the most money.

and, unlike cutting programs, cutting jobs raises unemployment

If your household budget was in complete shambles what would you do? Would you say don't bother cutting the gym membership its not like we won't still owe the mortgage and two cars anyway?

Soon? It's been in shambles since the Covid lockdowns.

Exclude the 11% rise in governmental GDP and we've been in a recession. It's part of the dems "Don't believe your eyes" propaganda. Then add all the skimming that was going on plus the astroturfing. A fuckin' mess is what it is, even without the open border disaster.

DOGE To Examine Congress Members Who Became ‘Strangely Wealthy’

“There is a massive amount of corruption, but it is circuitous. So what happens is there’s money that — obviously it’s your taxpayer money — that is then sent to various government organizations who then send it to NGO’s, which an NGO is a non-governmental organization, but obviously it’s a government-funded non-governmental organization.

“It’s just an organization. It’s just a government, and effectively there’s a giant fraud loophole which is that the government can send money to an NGO that is then no longer governed by the laws of the United States,” he continued.

“So they’ll send the money overseas to one NGO, then they’ll go through a bunch of them, and then, I’m highly confident that a bunch of that money then comes back to the United States and lands in the pockets of the people you just mentioned,” he said. “But it is a circuitous route. It doesn’t go directly, but let’s just say that there’s a lot of strangely wealthy members of Congress where I’m trying to connect the dots of, ‘How do they become rich?’”

It will be interesting if those people cut from the federal bloated workforce even attempt to find employment in the private sector. If you spend a little time listening to many federal people laughing and bragging about how little they do "working" along with the major back that they "earn", it is not a surprise that most people don't have much compassion for these people.

Your question answers itself. Only a fool would think its not, first of all, the two cars.

You'll be the guy who reposts a decade old story about one guy as his evidence to support that claim.

The rank and file FEDERAL employee has always had a good reputation for work. You are stuck thinking about city workers during the Daley era

Some people view "the government" as obese black women who take three-hour lunch breaks because that's who was working the counter at the post office or DMV on a bad day. From there, any sort of austerity is justifiable no matter how short-sighted or destructive it may be.

It can take away some critical leadership, too.

A state (quasi Federal) park I know lacks workers now. The workers led a lot of volunteer groups and school awareness programs. Individuals, of course, can always take on the mantle of leadership themselves, but most don't and there are some embedded issues that prevent people from doing this (as I once found out).

Me and you each owe about $130K on the national debt. So I don't know what to tell you regarding awareness programs.

In all seriousness, the lack of any type of discipline for the better part of 100 years has led to this point. You can’t just continue to not pay for shit and hope for the best. The country isn’t Chicago. There’s nobody out there to bail us out.
