I need $3k to repair my poorly-engineered deck. Sure, I have the money, but I too bought new tires earlier this year, have a young child, and would much rather prefer someone else fund the repairs.

In all seriousness, I would consider donating to the family above if they made all of their bank statements publicly available. My fiancee's brother is always down on their luck, needing cash. They have 2 (or 4, depending on the weekend) kids. Maybe don't spend so much on cigarettes, vacations, etc. and focus on what really matters.

If that's where their disposable income is going, then yes.

I don't have such concerns here, and in a certain way, my "friendships"- or whatever they are- with you goofs are more honest and genuine than with many of the people I actually see in person all the time.

I suppose people should prepare for these things better. But they never do.
So many times I go to a call where they're watching a 60 inch tv and have a new beemer but they tell me they cannot afford repairs or ask for a veterans discount or complain that it's not fair that something can't be fixed.
I can't really understand someone with tens of thousands of dollars of credit card debt. I mean I get that medical bills or whatever end up being credit card debt and things like that but really more often than not its luxuries and vacations and the like.
You must always live well below your means so you can handle the "unexpected" (read: things that should be expected but never are like car repairs or a new roof).

i teach the Dave Ramsey financial peace university at our church twice a year. the first step in his thingy is getting a 500-1000 dollar emergency fund. I can't tell you how many people are like, That fund saved a fight between us or some other disaster. plus i have recommended to a handful of people who needed new roofs to call their insurance company first. it costs nothing to have them come out. over half of them have had their roofs replaced for nothing due to that one call. others got nos but hell its worth a shot.

The inherent potential danger in that, though, is now they know the condition of your roof and, until you repair it, you have the possibility of getting shorted on a future legit claim on the roof or anything they want to tie to the disrepair level of said roof.

On the other hand, if you have a newer roof (say 8 years or less, maybe 10) make sure your insurance company knows how 'new' your roof is - you might save a few bucks if your house was built in 1992, say, but you put on a roof last year ... full tear-off though, not some half-assed job.

correct. i only recommend this for people that are going to replace it either way. not just a "hmm i wonder if i need a new roof or not?"

Well they got $3k in less than a week. Poor financial planning pays off I guess.

What the fuck?

Im not married. But still. That's wildly sexist.

No joke. This was an exchange at work a few months ago.

Caller Bob I can't stand: Where'd you go for lunch?
RSG: Actually just ran out to get some clothes for RSG JR.
CICS: Oh, why didn't RSG's fiancee do that?
RSG: What?
CICS: My husband wouldn't buy clothes for our kids. That's what I do.
RSG: Oh, because I wanted to? (walks away, dies a little inside)

Update. CICS got into a huge fight with the owner and quit two weeks ago. The entire office just feels as if a weight has been lifted. It's so much quieter around here. #blessed

At this point, I'd be severely disappointed if this wasn't the real Harry Porterfield. The guy is still going strong and I want to believe he takes time every now and then to post here.

THANK YOU, MARK ZUCKERBERG, for your forward-thinking generosity! And congrats on becoming a dad!
Mark Zuckerberg has announced that he is giving away $45 billion of Facebook stock. What you may not have heard is that he plans to give 10% of it away to people like YOU and ME! All you have to do is copy and paste this message into a post IMMEDIATELY. At midnight PST, Facebook will search through the day's posts and award 1000 people with $4.5 million EACH as a way of saying thank you for making Facebook such a powerful vehicle for connection and philanthropy

So I am at Home Depot today and the older gentleman in front of me shows his ID for a veterans discount. The clerk tells him he does not qualify for a discount so the gentleman asked to see a manager. They ask me to go to another line because this may take a few minutes. I tell them no thanks I want to hear this.
So a young cocky full of himself moron comes to talk to the gentleman and says no you do not qualify. The gentleman tells him he has always gotten a discount there. So the moron says well we have told our people to tighten the rules and we only give what corporate requires we give and you do not qualify. The gentleman says he will then take his business elsewhere. The young moron replies that is your choice. The gentleman starts to leave and I step in.
I tell the moron if one of your idiot friends walked through the door right now you would have the option of giving him a discount and with your attitude you would do it. So step over to the register and give this guy his discount. He says he does not qualify for it.
So I tell him look here is how this is going to work. Either you give this guy a discount and I call Home Depot corp and tell them how good of a manager you are in spite of the stupid policy.
Or I go home call Home Depot corp tell them I stupid the policy is and their manager is a moron, then I blast face book and it goes viral and you get to be the moron you are.
I think you know which one he chose!
So people please blast Facebook with this story.

I think they only offer the discount on Veteran's-type holidays such as Memorial Day or Veteran's Day, etc.

It isn't year-round.

I'm pretty sure that Veterans* are allowed to walk into any business and get any discount they want at any time.

Or at least they will when Trump is elected.

*-whites only.

It was store E Spokane #4714
5617 E Sprague Ave
Spokane Valley, WA 99212
What a shmuck, he also told the gentleman that he would have to talk to the CEO of Home Depot to change his mind.
I hate people who do not respect our military.
