Don't be obtuse. I’m not comparing specific situations. I’m comparing the core philosophy that allows them to occur. If "I'm just doing my job" is automatic absolution and/or justification for any action, then nothing is immoral as long as you have the right boss.

So you admit you were exaggerating when comparing the two situations directly?

No. You apparently believe there are times when "I'm just doing my job" isn't a good excuse. You begin to believe it's a good one at some point between gassing Jews and taking over the streets of Ferguson, Mo. Since I'm not a mind reader I can't say exactly where you think "I'm just doing my job" is proper justification.

Everyone of those officers should have walked off the job and given up their profession/way of life/family security.
Or - the people calling the shots should be held accountable so that it doesn't continue.

One of those scenarios is far more realistic and one is fantasy bull crap.

I agree with Spanky. People should have some moral integrity and do the right thing.

The governor is incompetent. He failed or was unwilling to answer basic questions. I see why it took him 4 days to surface.

Apparently the picture of the police officers dicking around w/ the reporters cameras, lights, etc wasn't them being cockfags, but instead were assisting them by helping them move their items to a safer place.

http://fox2now.com/2014/08/14/despite-reports-swat-team-helped-al-jazeera-reporters-did-not-take-their-equipment/

I happen to say 'apparently' mostly because (a) one must consider the source, and (b) there's still no rational justification that I'm aware of for having fired much, if any, of the tear gas in the first place, let alone sloppily near reporters, never mind (c) the inarguably unconstitutional arrests of other journalists for doing their jobs or alderman for being uppity.

So, we'll see on that.

There was a reporter (not sure from where) that came on MSNBC last night and said they were facing cameras toward the ground and telling them that they had to move.

Oh, I think this story is a bunch of baloney. That said, it's kinda ballsy to actually run with a story like that, particularly in this day and age, when all it takes is one or two of the folks it happened to to say "uh, no; this isn't remotely accurate". By the same token, it's strange that if nothing untoward happend to them why they didn't say so themselves by now, close-ish to an entire day later.

It's fishy is what I'm saying.

More and more it seems like we're finding out less and less.

Senator from Missora now chiming in that the police are now creating a heightened level of tension.

I guess she will be moving to ferguson very soon as everything would be fine without those darn police!

I think police turning an area into a militarized zone is creating a heightened level of tension. Tension that was created by a police officer in the first place

When you hear "just doing my job" or "just following orders" ya pretty much know douchebaggery is afoot.

I think it's very reasonable for these men to suggest to their commander "hey, maaaaybe machine guns and cammo is a bit much."

But let's be real, these guys love playing army.

if I was the police chief, I would let them all go home for a night and see how it goes.

The guy has no pressure on him. he can call his senator and ask them what to do next, they seem to have all the answers.

when shit goes bad, you have all the second guessers lining up.

I will just guess the last 2 nights, if no presence was there, the looting would have contiuned and the destruction of more businesses would have continued.

Maybe they just didnt ask them to stop nice enough? :)
