Don't be obtuse. I’m not comparing specific situations. I’m comparing the core philosophy that allows them to occur. If "I'm just doing my job" is automatic absolution and/or justification for any action, then nothing is immoral as long as you have the right boss.

No. You apparently believe there are times when "I'm just doing my job" isn't a good excuse. You begin to believe it's a good one at some point between gassing Jews and taking over the streets of Ferguson, Mo. Apparently the picture of the police officers dicking around w/ the reporters cameras, lights, etc wasn't them being cockfags, but instead were assisting them by helping them move their items to a safer place.

I happen to say 'apparently' mostly because (a) one must consider the source, and (b) there's still no rational justification that I'm aware of for having fired much, if any, of the tear gas in the first place, let alone sloppily near reporters, never mind (c) the inarguably unconstitutional arrests of other journalists for doing their jobs or alderman for being uppity.

So, we'll see on that.

Oh, I think this story is a bunch of baloney. That said, it's kinda ballsy to actually run with a story like that, particularly in this day and age, when all it takes is one or two of the folks it happened to to say "uh, no; this isn't remotely accurate". By the same token, it's strange that if nothing untoward happend to them why they didn't say so themselves by now, close-ish to an entire day later.

It's fishy is what I'm saying.

if I was the police chief, I would let them all go home for a night and see how it goes.

The guy has no pressure on him. he can call his senator and ask them what to do next, they seem to have all the answers.

when shit goes bad, you have all the second guessers lining up.

I will just guess the last 2 nights, if no presence was there, the looting would have contiuned and the destruction of more businesses would have continued.

Maybe they just didnt ask them to stop nice enough?
