I think there is a 1-team package. Otherwise the full one.

The Memorial Day sale is how I got hooked a few years ago. But if you live in the Cubs/White Sox blackout area, it is useless unless you want to watch the rest of the league. We've lost a number of great PBP guys in the last few years, Vin Scully and Dick Enberg at the top of the list.

A free VPN works. I like the Cubs and Sox announcers, but like the out of town viewpoint for a change. The opponents camera work is better usually than the Cubs at Wrigley.

It is great for you because you don't really watch tv. I mean you are a Cubs fan i think who doesn't care about even watching them.

What services are quickly raising their prices? My Sling Blue has been the same price since I joined 1.5 years ago.

Sling has raised prices on the orange package. However sling is a way to save money by getting a pretty horrible channel lineup so that are less likely to see a big price increase.

Sling Blue and Orange are the same price. $25 per month. I add on the DVR for an extra $5. LOL- a horrible channel lineup. A lot of people don't want to watch all the shit you do. I haven't watched ESPN, the NFL Network, or any non-sports broadcasts on Sling since I cut the cord and I haven't missed a damn thing I wanted to see. There's a lot of people exactly like me that don't want a bloated cable package with high fees.

Yeah there is a 1 team package...I have that for the Cubs. Was just curious if there was a 2 team package that I had missed. I would be interested in a 2 team package.

I cut the cord in 2010, and the only time I miss it is during baseball season. The White Sox are on free tv twice a week. Once on the weekend and once during the week. If they went completely off free tv, like the Cubs are planning, I suspect I would have to try to pick up some service to watch them again.

It is a horrible channel lineup. You just aren't a sports fan but even the non sports part loses a lot of good stuff.

I'm pretty sure I could cut my cable service down to the lowest level and pay around 30 a month for cable tv with the bundle discount since we both need internet anyways.

My internet is $44.95/month. The cheapest TV add on was +$35/month and the TV channel lineup was crap. One that would have been worthwhile was +$55/month, vs $25 for Sling.

I will theoretically miss it during the NFL season, especially since you can't stream radio feeds any more. But I'm sure there is a bar that will have Bears games on a TV.

I’d like to do something like this.

The internet is the only good thing about the cable company. All the channels suck. I don’t have need for 97% of their lineup.

Problem here is if I cancel the tv side they jack up the internet to like $75/mo

It gives me the only sports I care about watching and I watch too much of them according to my wife. If your definition of being a sports fan is watching football, basketball, and baseball then I guess I am not a sports fan.

Maybe you watch too much TV. Spend more time with your wife and kids, go outside, read, play sports, or do anything constructive. Having a large cable package and watching a lot of TV is nothing to brag about.

Yes, not watching 3/4 major sports means you aren't really a sports fan. I'm also not sure how you watch a lot of hockey either though.

I'm not bragging about watching tv. You called me out and I answered. I do most of that other stuff too besides reading. I still find time for great tv.

I hope people keep cord cutting, the cable companies will develop a package that's more unique for each individual.

Eventually it will go to a la carte selection, which is how it should be.

You like the programming on a channel, you opt into it for your cable bill. Cable companies still make more in a bundled environment, but there is an inflection point somewhere when enough subscribers cut the cord.

Although as someone who disposed of cable 3 years ago, at this point I cannot think of one channel I would opt into at this point. Nat Geo maybe?

I'd actually be surprised if it was only a $4 net increase. I think they assume NBC Sports will lower their price by more than a dollar or two.

But NBC Sports just increased their inventory of live sports by taking all the WGN games (~55 Sox, ~30 Bulls, ~20 Hawks), so they probably feel they can charge just as much or more even without the Cubs.

NBC Sports Chicago has been emboldened no doubt with the removal of WGN from the broadcast landscape. It doesn't mean they have figured out the $ aspect. I just don't know who is going to pay for this.

It ain't me.

BTW, Hulu (which has a huge channel selection) +HBO, +ESPN, and a good antenna (which is, after you buy it, is FREE, FOREVER) about $60 a month. I love (and live, actually) TV.

And I don't miss cable at all.

I wish the Cubs could tell MLBAM to piss up a rope and offer a "digital superstation" of sorts: $5/month gets you every game on any device, no matter where you live, no matter where you are. The Cubs have always been visionaries on the broadcast side, now they're a day late and a dollar short with yet another regional sports network that will be lucky to get picked up in Indiana and Iowa.

"It won’t just be Sinclair — who has a reputation of their local affiliates being more conservative in local news reports — running political ads on their sports networks. Most sports networks will air ads, regardless if those ads lean left, right, or down the middle. And yeah, we’ll probably be sick of them sooner rather than later."

So....nothing to see here. Great article, today.

None that I know of.

This will do to the Cubs what SportsVision did to the Sox in 1982

Sling has gone to shit. I am cancelling it in a couple of weeks after my dad visits, he gets the DTs if he can't put news on, and Bloomberg doesn't count.

I refuse to pay $45/month for Hulu+ while I am still working. If I retire this winter, I will consider it.

Mostly with the OTA/local sports setup. Now that I moved, I don't have NBC local, I don't have Fox local, and I don't have the local sports (Fox South/Fox Carolinas). I'm going to save my $25/month and go buy dinner or beer a couple of times a month when I want to watch sports live.

It’s all in what you like to watch. NBC Sports, NBC Chicago, and the Fox Sports Networks which are on Sling Orange provide the sports I want to watch. My favorite sports are hockey, NASCAR, and cycling. I’ll watch a little baseball once hockey is over and some NFL football on Sundays once NASCAR ends. Since I cut the cord, I have not had access to something I wanted to watch twice- the Cubs wildcard playin game and the Bears recent MNF game which I found a stream to.
