I have been craving gyros for weeks but now I am double-plus craving gyros.

If I recall world history, it was quite a bit about Egypt. But all other non-U.S. history is as you describe it.


I had this government class at UIC where it took a deep dive into other political systems of the world. It was supposed to feature places like Mexico and Japan. But the Eurocentric professor spent the entire semester on the UK and France. I recall some Mexican-American student being all upset because she was looking forward to learning about the Mexican system of government. And I had to agree with her. I only learned about other systems from reading the Economist for years.

I've always imagined that lamb and dog taste similarly.

I've heard both, but I grew up as a very picky eater and the initial experiences were bad to the point of not wanting to try either again. I don't think i had a gyros until my mid twenties, and have only otherwise had salads, chicken and saganaki in Greek places in my life.

Lamb is great unless you overcook the hell out of it. A big leg of lamb is hard to cook medium rare because the shank end will cook all to hell before the butt end with the hip socket in there etc even gets warm.

Lamb is odd and the taste varies greatly from one lamb to the next, even in related animals (now that was one of the many useless pieces of info from a wasted 3 credits at MSU.)

I didn't really know that, but I have had lamb I thought was great and lamb I hated.

You shouldn't try to cook lamb to temperature. Really it should hit 165 degrees, medium well. Do you order your chicken medium?

There's this place in Wheeling on 83 called Skipper's. Typical hot dog/burger/gyro place. Had a gyro burger last week which is just a 1/4 burger with gyro meat and cucumber sauce on top. Awesome.

The future holds the possibility to be great or terrible, and since it has not yet occurred it remains simultaneously both.

I think Heffy's has a burger like that too. I'll have to try one from either, maybe both.
