the only truly hilarious thing in brain candy is whathisface's spot-on impression of lorne michaels. once you realize that you're always good for a wicked shit-eating grin whenever the character is on screen......otherwise, hey, like i said they all got a few years of a TV show and a feature film out of it.... and dave foley got a gig on the vastly superior newsradio (RIP) thanks to KiTH. so everyone pour some out for those wild-n-crazy canucks and resume your normal stance of pretending to give a shit that SNL has bowed to contemporary superblogger (gawker/reddit/etc) pressure to hire a couple'a black female writers to write sketches that you're 95% likely to not ever watch, yet still feel oddly compelled to comment on via social media.

yes, i happen to live in a realm devoid of mirrors thank you very little!

all you need to know that is apatow is BFFs with adam sandler and then you'll realize he's "in the club" and thus has achieved a lifetime membership with "you get to make movies" privileges like the sandman, who btw is re-uniting with america's sweetheart drew barrymore to crank out another movie like it's 1999 where once again adam sandler is THE EVERYMAN(TM) and drew barrymore is THE EVERYWOMAN(TM) so just give 'em a gimmick and ultimately-heartwarming hilarity ensues!

and i, for one, will relish the day that grown ups 3 comes out. gastrointestinal jokes? literally out the wazoo! kevin james? LOL HE'S SOOOOOO FAT! chris rock? LOL HE'S SOOOOOO BLACK (but not one of those threatening "thug" blacks so he's a-ok with me!) and rob schneider? LOL HE'S SOOOOOOO STILL ALIVE!

the sad part? guaranteed return on investment so they're undoubtedly starting pre-production on grown ups 4 while i'm typing this.

yeah as you could infer from my cheeky lil post/image-dump upthread, i've kind of gone out of my way to not watch this show because i'm sure it's some stupid smarmy "I'M EVERY WOMANNNNNNNNNN" </crooning-to-mental-images-of-oprah> thing where privileged daughters of, well, privilege get to go out there and try to make some superficial award-grabbing attempt at putting a ribbon on "the contemporary female experience" or whatever crap you can gleam from a show that's gotten critical acclaim for "providing a look into the lives of REAL women all across america" (you know, as opposed to all those shows about fake women or "tropes", to use a buzzword of the now ((thank you anita sarkeesian)))

so am i wrong in my cynical pre-judgment of this show being being some smarmy crap written by rich girls writing about the treasure trove of untold stories that come from the lives of trust-fund-hipsters in williamsburg? you know, an in depth look at the #FirstWorldProblems that pop up when you're trying to find your place in society with only your insecurities and ample supply of unearned $$$ to guide you through the cold unforgiving "real world" chock full of people who just don't understand your struggle as a Strong Independent Womyn? marco? ......................................you there polo?

I had this preconception too but if anything I think the show is brutally honest in its treatment of the main characters and how solipsistic they are. That doesn't mean it's for everyone but I think a lot of the generational voice hype is really a product of critics either just not getting the show or trying to make it something that it's not.

He thought the question was offensive, sexist, and misogynistic? Are people so unable to defend their actions and opinions these days that they have to resort to using these words, seemingly without knowing what they actually mean, to describe anyone who questions them? His line of questions about the TV critic's girlfriend was nonsensical.

And the producer, Jenni Konner, sounds like a buffoon:

Jenni Konner interrupted her response to another question to add, “I literally was spacing out because I’m in such a rage spiral about that guy,” she said pointing to the question-asker. “I was just looking at him looking at him and going into this rage [over] this idea that you would talk to a woman like that and accuse a woman of showing her body too much. The idea it just makes me sort of sick.”

Rage spiral? Everything isn't an outrage. Simply being critical of something a woman does, does not make one a sexist or a misogynist. The chorus of contrived "Oh my God how DARE YOU!" is disconcerting.

i don't agree at all that scott thompson was a one trick pony. his range was pretty good on KITH. he had incredible comic timing. and i thought he was great on "larry sanders". i was a big fan of "brain candy"...i was surprised that gene siskel was one of its biggest proponents.

The show is not written for me and so I don't watch. If I need to grab a quick late night wank I can usually rely on The Girls Guide to Depravity. I couldn't tell you what that show is about either but they seem to "get me".

I have a well defined hatred of this show though my wife tolerated it enough to watch it so I would while surfing on my phone.

I asked her if she was going to watch this season and she quickly responded "No". She was never a huge fan but her giving up on it is interesting because she probably should be the target demographic of the show.

The Saturday Night Live skit about this show perfectly destroys it.

No way. It's simply a celebration of how tough it is to be someone who doesn't have it tough at all. It's just over dramatic whining by girls who act like they are 14 years old when they should be adults. It's a celebration of how these women invent drama to make their life seem difficult.

There is nothing redeeming about this show.

I'll kiss your ass in the middle of the town square if that wasn't an entirely staged response just waiting for someone to ask a fairly logical and predictable question.

Yeah, big time. Feminism is kind of losing its way. It should be about treating women as equal human beings, not utterly losing your shit every time some guy makes a dirty joke on the internet. That's how you get people saying with a straight face that "the patriarchy" consists of underemployed white guys in their mid-twenties.

That skit is awesome. I made it through the first season, but my wife still watches, so it is background noise for me at this point.

What's so funny about "BEING GAY?" LOl hahhah

or when they drop in a laugh track whenever a guy is dressed in drag playing a part?

I will refer to the Council of Elders to have a vote

That's just it. That they dressed in drag wasn't meant to be funny in and of itself. They just did it to play more characters.

No, clearly dressing in drag is never considered funny, especially when done by

Charlie Chaplin
Stan Laurel
Kevin Hart
Milton Berle
Eddie Murphy
Jamie Farr
Jerry Lewis
everyone in Monty Python
Bob Hope
Tony Curtis
Jack Lemmon
Martin Lawrence
Robin Williams
The Three Stooges
Tom Hanks
Flip Wilson
Nathan Lane

That's all I care to spend time thinking of. But clearly, never funny.

(that said, Tyler Perry nearly negates the entire list all by himself)

Honey Boo Boo draws as many viewers per episode as Girls does for 5 episodes.

Girls lost almost half its audience from season 1 (1 million) to season 2 (600,000).

Eastbound and Down about doubles the viewership of Girls. Shows like Veep and Boardwalk Empire get about 2 million viewers per episode. Game of Thrones doubles even those shows.

A different network, but a decent show like Terriers gets cancelled despite outdrawing Girls per episode.

No idea why HBO sticks with a ratings loser like Girls. Can't help the shows around it to have a turd in the punch-bowl every week Girls is on.

So the blow up at the journalist was probably pure publicity stunt a la Duck Dynasty, to get people talking about Girls before the new season starts. Shit works.

I guess even HBO has to have critical-acclaim loss leaders like the commercial networks.

Ugh, Game of Thrones, I don't get it. It's like dragon porn or something.

according to them, it was mainly because they couldn't get any females to play the roles or at least not in abundance so they did the roles themselves. occasionally they could get their girlfriends to play some of the smaller roles (like bobby's girlfriend) but to me it worked better that they played the roles since they played them so well.

GOT is way more than "dragon porn". you just got all over bigfan for dismissing KITH as being just some gay sketch comedy show that isn't funny. you're pretty much doing the same thing to GOT...

The first season of Girls isn't as bad as people made it out to be. Once you realize you're supposed to hate all these people (except maybe Shoshanna, who is totes adorbs), it's much easier to settle into.

I wish the show and everyone associated with it would settle into a giant wheat thresher.

I tried to watch it, I did. My wife and I gave it two shots. No go, no good.
