How old is the mayor? Is he old enough to drink? He looks like a kid.

Well Minneapolis let in a shit load of Muslims under Barry O's regime so I guess the crazies took over the city around that time. Too bad, the Twin cities used to be a nice area. Not anymore. Kind of like Portland and Seattle now.

Wow. This is going to be interesting, to say the least.

I wonder what the legalities are regarding this. The council votes to do this and that's that?

It will be an interesting experiment. No idea what this will look like. Seems like a good chance to be private security for the rich and good luck for everyone else.

City council also voted to change the name of Minneapolis to Mogadishu as it fits better to what it will become.

I imagine that we're going to see a rebranding of the police department.

Sounds about as effective as charter schooling

It should also have the unintended consequence of eliminating thousands of middle class and union jobs, for any of the class of warfare advocates. Replaced most likely by lower pay and benefits positions. I’ll let it play out before I pooh pooh it out of hand

The one thing they brought up that I had t considered is mental health professionals being part of a team that responds to a call when appropriate. Two of Chicago’s two most prominent incidents of the last couple of years involved mentally ill.

What Minneapolis is about to do isn't exactly untested and untried. Camden did it in the last decade and saw it's homicide rate fall to a 30+ year low.

https://www.citylab.com/equity/2018/01/ ... en/549542/

Police are ultimately a major source of the problems plaguing US cities so it's no shock that these measures actually work.

It's nice to see this major swing of the pendulum. Police in the US, you're officially on notice and your attitude and resistance to reform is now going to be your undoing. I love it.

Public opinion in this country is no longer on your side.

that and a complete change in how they do business. They're going to follow the Camden route most likely

Yeah, Camden is Philadelphia's Gary, not to be confused with 1930s bluesman "Philadelphia Gary." From reading about it, the city basically disbanded the city police and replaced them with county police who happen not to be responsible for the rest of the county. It feels like the No Homers Club but with Punisher tattoos. I don't know how much of this is better police officers and how much is just having more of them out there, but reviews seem mostly positive.

There has to be some level of reform after all this, even if it's just some nibbling around the edges for appearances' sake.

The officer who arrested you after your attempted child fucking should've given you the Eric Garner/George Floyd treatment. With your health, it probably would've had the same result for you.

You just get off on other people using the power you don't have to commit the violence you can't do. You don't actually care about any higher values, you just like seeing people get killed.

They’re gonna do it

Could be good for Chicago - criminals will flock there like the gold rush of 1849!

Seriously, though, I am all for people policing their own community, and I hope it works, but, why in the fuck is the word "PROVEN" in the damn headline? That really pisses me off.

No way in fuck that shit is "proven" - on any planet. If there is but a single case out there, on the other side of the country, in a much smaller population (6 times smaller), nothing is "proven".

Why do these fucking modern "authors" always have try to do everyone's thinking for them? Why? THEY THINK THAT YOU ARE STOOPID!!! (either that, or they are deathly-afraid that you might just think for yourself and not agree with them)

I know. That looks like their entire fucking problem right there.

How did that little peckerwood get elected to be in charge of a mid-major US City?

I don't want to sound like an asshole and I don't want to paint with a broad brush but I believe there is a simple truth in life that applies to this situation. No one is going to respect you until you respect yourself. There were marches, and gatherings all over the county and city of Milwaukee yesterday and on that same day there were 3 non protest related homicides in the poorest communities that are predominately of color. There were no homicides anywhere else....my county borders milwaukee county and this year we had our first homicide in 10 years.

There are clearly multiple layers to the unrest right now. Police brutality is awful and needs to be dealt with. The things going on in the poorer neighborhoods of color also needs to be addressed and not just deflected and blamed on someone else. We get service calls to these areas and no one wants to go on them. No one has any problem with the clients as they have all been cool but the climate of the neighborhood is scary. I feel uneasy working down the street from where there were 3 murders over the weekend.

There will be a lot of "who ya crappings" when people who insisted that the protests be peaceful bitch and moan about this form of peaceful protest.

Re-running the 2016 playbook in 2020 is going to give Trump a 1980 Carter vote total. Public opinions have changed and the Republicans are no longer in the majority on most of these idiotic culture war issues
