So now I embarassed myself?

If you believe that Ignatius didn't offer favor to athletes and excellent students in order to enhance their reputation, then that's an island you won't have much company on. And as I stated, my alma mater did, and continues to do the same thing.

There is no hypocrisy in offering favor to excellent students. The whole point of the place is to offer favor to excellent students.

You didn't say that. You said athletes, which is not defensible.

I live in the suburbs where more than one of their former coaches resides(d).

If you think that Ignatius never offered favor to athletes, then you may want to dig a little deeper.

If you think that the whole point of a Jesuit education is to offer favor to excellent students, then you couldn't be more mistaken. But that statement supports my assertion of the arrogance that has been taught there, and carried on into politics.

I'm not shifting any argument. I'm telling you what goes on unbeknownst to you.

And they may be doing it wrong, but you are now acknowledging another one of my original premises.

Surprisingly Chicago is 2nd to NYC in terms of number of tourists per year. Might be the weak economy and folks choosing to
drive to Chicago instead of fly to Vegas or Hawaii or Orlando. I think the Orlando area tops both NYC and Chicago for number of visitors, but those tourists are mostly out among the theme parks and Disney World.

As bad as taxes are for those of us who live and work in Chicago proper, tourists get freaking raped from the moment they step off the plane. Rental car taxes for airport rentals are now around 25% and I think they are going up again soon. Hotel taxes are almost 20%, and going up and up.

Chicago really doesn't need the Olympics to generate tourist traffic.

Isn't that the area hipsters from Wickertucky and Loadyergun Square move to to start families and get divorced? The Target on Addison has more baby bumps per capita than a lamaze class.

I'm at McFetridge a few days a week. Nice facility. They opened a snack shop selling hot dogs and what not and are charging insane prices for inedible crap. If Home Depot can make a decent dog and sell it to you for $5 with chips and drink, they should be able to do the same. It's ~$9 for a sad looking 7-11 style skinny dog, fountain beverage and chips @McFetridge.

This thread cracks me up. It's like sail boaters vs motor boaters. To each their own. I would never live in the city with all the traffic and parking problems. I like living where I do, that's why I live here. Does a black population under 1% (I didn't think we had a single black living in Winnetka, but I found out recently we actually have a 00.7 % black population here) appeal to me and many others....of course. Does a low crime rate and a location along the lake shore make it even more appealing.....oh yeah. Golf courses (good ones) close by....check. Yeah, you enjoy the city, city dwellers and I'll stay right here. I will visit for Cubs games and Hawks games live theater and concerts now and then and try to avoid your red light cameras that seem to change in the blink of an eye, from yellow to red. But then it's back home.

He wouldn't dare talk like that in the presence of RR, Nas, or Spmack. Don't even respond to that coward. Maybe he will go away.

No. Bungalows have character and no two are exactly alike. They will be standing 100 years after the ticky tacky suburban McMansions have fallen.

With only 4 complete teardowns and rebuilds of the interior and non-brick exteriors!

Enjoy the 100 year old frame though!

most 100 year old frames are torn down...however, lots of that lumber is more than solid. Thats when they grew trees for 25+ years before they cut them down so the wood was MUCH stronger than it is now. You caan find houses with 25 foot 4x4 posts as the main supports.

The Burb stuff built by mostly national builders just isnt a quality product. Everything is engineered to be a little cheaper, save on every item, every corner is cut...it's like Soldier Field.

someone designs it on paper, someone builds it even if they think the trusses should be closer together, but the engineer pushed them further apart because it was 10 less per house, thus save $750 a house and on 50 houses, thats $37,500. Thats how it happens.

You're a noveau riche Winnetka social climber. I'm surprised they let you in. But you will never dine with me at the Michigan Shores club.

After living downtown for the past 5 years, being in Schaumburg now (where I grew up)...the thing I appreciate the most is definitely being able to run to Target/Home Depot/etc. in 5 mins on a Saturday vs. taking an hour to drive down fullerton or halsted in the city

yet, every fri and sat night, the expressways are packed with people coming downtown?

I do agree about trying to do ANYTHING in the way of errands on the weekends. It is the worst, traffic has become unbearable on Saturday and Sunday. Of course, if I need to drive one place, I know it is not going to be a quick trip.

Yea, I dreaded having to run an errand.

Evens out when you don't have to drive to the bar/restaurants or park.

Another great thing about living in the suburbs! You can still go to a show or a game and most of the time you can avoid public transportation!

If you're rooting for Chicago to fail, you shouldn't like any of its teams.
